I don't fly as much as many of you do, are there any airports that have two terminals that don't connect in any way?
Yes.
MSP comes to mind.

Except that SWA has already spent a ton of their own money for their costs in the new terminal.
Swa spent a ton of money fixing issues with the old msy that the airport should have fixed/paid someone to fix. I was able to talk to some of the higher ups (people from headquarters) at Delta and SWA and they would have been happy to stay at the old msy. Swa would have wanted to move out of the B concourse though.

I've flown Spirit and SW almost exclusively the last 3 years. No real bad experiences, kind of get what you get. I'm not a high maintenance traveler though.
Flew United a couple weeks ago, after someone else booked everything, and realized what a better experience I had been missing. And I swore off United forever about 10 years ago.
Not sure it is enough to make me not fly budget airlines though.

Give them the B and let them make the capital improvements.
As far as connecting the terminals--we are essentially doing that today with the stupid rental car shuttles. We can combine the two functions in one.
There would very little need to move between terminals.
It would be great for the flying public.

Back to what should have been done. Rebuild one gate at a time and start by building a new gate to the space between the old terminal and the Fedex facility. Then move one concourse at a time as you build the new ones. You end up with a completely new terminal without the need for new access roads and such. Smoother transition as well. YOu take the savings and build a light electric rail to the parking garages and rental car facilities.

B is crap...... bag belt system was constantly breaking for them and the 'belt repair team' employed by the city were never in a rush to fix it. They could add more gates if the wanted but B should be demolished and pissed on. C would allow them to do more international flights that they want to do out of here. Plus it would put Customers that much closer to the rental car facility.

I know you travel quite a bit just like I do. Are you ok with the MSY airport design?
Yes and no. Some parts are perfect (shared concourses)..Others are patched together (rental car buses, ride share lines).
My hope is the growing pains will wear off and it’ll be more efficient.

Do you have CLEAR? I get it for free with Delta Diamond status and guess I will finally sign up for it after the pre TSA fiasco I faced yesterday.
I don’t have clear. I do have precheck. Line last night was long, but moving. Took me 12 min from entering line to picking up my bags off the X-ray belt.
If you get clear for free I’d say do it.
I think the biggest issue is clearing up the “shared” demand across what was three separate concourses into one.

I really don't know why you guys are still talking about the south terminal. It's done, kaput.
New airport issues are all growing pains and can be fixed in the next few months.

DTW is the largest like this.
LAX and JFK “sorta” connect via a convoluted bus system.

Other than having nothing but connections, GPT would be my choice as well if I lived on the Northshore. Fast everything and even free parking.
I love flying out of GPT but the parking isn't free.

they haven't torn it down yet!
We should use infrastructure we paid for instead of destroying it.
All we got for $1 billion + was a glorified food court.
Here is a chance to truly make it better for the flying public. Let's take advantage of it.

The more I think about it the more I think that is a GREAT IDEA and would save us hundreds of millions.
It would keep the smell of poors out of the new terminal too
Whatever. Southwest is the best airline flying.
The airline flying at least 38 jets that final safety verification and FAA has recommended grounding? Definitely not the best airline, it is awful.
Definitely having its issues, but every new airport has them. The new Terminal A at LAX a few years ago was a disaster. Hopefully they can be fixed. You'd think the citizens would want this to be successful and not desire it to fail as some on here would seem to wish.

The majority of issue is still the understaffing of competent TSA workers but I do think there needs to be a scoring/grading system for TSA Pre Check travelers.
Specifically, New Orleans must have the highest rate of "bag checks" after the fact because a majority of residents still don't understand in 2019 that you can't bring a large jar of (insert sauce) in a carry-on because airline XXX wanted $35 to check your bag.
If you get three strikes in a two year period (strike for forgetting a full water bottle, large tube of toothpaste, etc.), then you become suspended from Pre-Check for six months.
If you have a flawless record, you are allowed into an expedited queue while people applaud you.

So now you want to spend another half a billion dollars?

Several postive reviews on the new terminal from facebook then come here and doom and gloom. I don't get it. Wonder if they one really bad time span on Sunday to account for the greatly varying opinions.

Nobody knows where to go. People are coming inside just to gawk.
The airport (up until the final week I believe) hadn't even shown a good chunk of airport employees where to enter to get to punch in and such. Which access doors to use to get to the right place on the concourse.

This could be done in a 1 hour lunch and learn with video. This shouldn't be that hard.
Some of it probably had to be on the job training, unless you wanted to pay them overtime, because remember they were still doing their jobs at the old terminal.
