The man charged with murder in the 2014 slaying of Domino's driver Richard "Chris" Yeager was found not guilty by a jury Thursday (May 17) after almost eight hours of deliberations. Shane Hughes, 20, also was acquitted in an armed robbery that occurred the night before Yeager's death. The jury, however, could not reach a verdict on the armed robbery of Yeager, which prosecutors said happened in connection with his murder.
quote:
Hughes and Rendell Brown were accused of beating and robbing a woman at gunpoint in her driveway on Newcomb Boulevard on Sept. 20, 2014. Prosecutors said they then stole her 2008 Volvo. The next night, prosecutors said the two robbed Yeager, a 35-year-old French Quarter DJ, after he delivered a pizza in the 2800 block of St. Louis Street in Mid-City. They shot him 10 times and stole his car, prosecutors said. They were 16 at the time. Defense attorneys Gregory Carter and John Fuller told jurors that while his ankle monitor data showed Hughes was at the scenes of both crimes, he did not actually play a role in either incident. His ankle monitor data showed Hughes leaving the scenes as the crimes were happening, they said.
quote:
Carter said Hughes did get in Yeager's car after he was killed. And ankle monitor data showed Hughes was with Brown at the spot where Yeager's license plate was later found.

When justice isn’t given it needs to be taken.

I will do the family a favor and kill them myself. Their bodies will never be found.

I'll take a wild guess at the jury demographics.

Streets will take them.

I'm going to guess that the driver was a white, because I haven't seen any protests.

how did the prosecution screw this 1 up with ankle monitor data?

If he didn't get the pizza there in 30 minutes, I don't know what other outcome was expected here.

Brown plead guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 40 years in prison, so at least someone will do serious time for his murder.

Creates reasonable doubt that the other guy there with an ankle monitor actually committed the crimes.
Idk how he fricked up the robbery charge from the night before though. The woman said she saw Hughes kick her and was 100% confident it was him.

I'm going to assume the robbery victim did not identify him as one of her robbers..........

Woops.

So he was at least an accomplice........

Brown was 16 when he was arrested
Inmates these days are getting paroled on 65% of their sentence for manslaughter these days
He'll get out when he's in his early 40s

Rendell Brown... who pled guilty to manslaughter in this case
Shane Hughes (left... that's another pic of Brown on the right)... who somehow beat the system
and... of course... our victim... Richard "Chris' Yeager... who was only delivering pizzas

It's serious time regardless, but yeah, this situation sucks for Yeager's family.
