This is after a significant reduction in 2024. Granny doing some work.

The NOPD has so far seen an overall, year-over-year decrease in violent crime by 20%. That's driven by a decrease in nearly every category of violent crime including car theft (-48.6%), carjackings (-33%), unarmed (-28.8%) and armed (-13.9%) robberies and rape or sexual assaults (-3.9%). Murder is down by 34% so far this year — a striking statistic on its own, and that includes the terror attack that killed 14 people. Without that anomaly, the figure would amount to a 60% drop.

Just gives them room to go right back up to the top!

Yep. The dramatic decline started last summer.
Murder rate would look a hell of a lot better if we didn’t have that little Bourbon Street terror attack.
In before the tards show up and claim it’s only down because the officials aren’t reporting the murders, etc.

Is it actually down or did they just change some of the definitions of the crimes?

Good news. I guess. But by any definition it’s still a dangerous, crime infested city. And these numbers can swing back in the wrong direction quickly.

It’s down because the state police and Force Nola has been doing the actual police work.

Do they actually even count crimes anymore in big cities?

Well when you have some of the best hospitals and medics located downtown, and the worst shooters, you can easily avoid murder and turn it into attempted murder since the victim didn’t die, of course murder stats will decline.

Those great hospitals were there over the past five years when the murder rate was climbing.

Yep. They were out hunting the worst of the worst.
And someone threatened the DA or something, because he’s actually doing his job somewhat.

I remember this from the Wire. If you don’t report it, it isn’t crime.

Some of you will do serious mental gymnastics to deny progress. New Orleans has long had really good tier 1 hospitals and the crime rate skyrocketed.
NOPD has really improved how they police and the addition of troop nola by the state police have paid huge dividends in 2024 and early 2025.
Plenty plenty room to go, but the progress deserves praise.

Troop NOLA and the facial recognition cameras have been huge

What is this attributed to?
I know the State Police started helping in some parts.

this pleases me to see this. I still enjoy New Orleans and there are still places I love to go an eat and visit and I was never going to stop visiting, but the fact that progress is being made to curb some things that should never have been allowed to get so out of hand is good.

Ever since Landry became Governor, I’ve noticed a larger State Police presence in New Orleans.
Is it a coincidence that when the Republican Governor came into office that happened? Probably not, but you’ll never get a democrat to acknowledge that.

At some point thugs are going to run out of other thugs to kill.
