The irony in this entire situation is that anyone supporting this is actually racist, but they are so stupid and ignorant that it's not even worth trying to explain how they are racist to them.

And to think, it was once a black man that only wanted for people to be judged by the content of their charater and not the color of their skin. In modern times, it seems that only blacks care about the color of skin and could give two shits about the content of character.

The long and short of this is 90% of most folks white or black don't care about the statues. It's like Adam and Eve. They didn't know they were naked until they ate the apple.

That's the problem. Landrieu is looking for his next govt welfare job, so he makes an issue where there really wasn't one. His answer is to split the community and start $hit between the races.

At some point you address this, but wasting time and energy on this when you have Street wars going on in NOLA, the city refuses to pay their firemen, the city smells like a sewer, etc is simply a huge distraction of his failure of a administration.

Yes. It was a democratic vote, but for all the wrong reasons. Basically today proved NOLA wants to go back to pre-K politics which is to pander to those who really need it the most. In short, the city's recovery is over. Mitch will succeed in re-creating the old, bad NOLA.

But the bottom line is this, if you agree with this, please go take a stroll around NOLA at 7pm and spend your money. Everything is fine and dandy. Now with the monuments are gone, NOLA is utopia! Safer than Disney!

If you don't agree with the removal, then just don't go to NOLA, and don't spend your money. You will feel better about it and possibly not get mugged or killed.

I wouldn't quite specify that they are racists, but at the very least prejudiced. They honestly know nothing about any of these men other than the fact they were white and southern during a period that was not fair or just to people who were not white.

I'll be downtown in a couple hours, I'll report back if I see celebrations.

I haven't heard any celebrations in my neighborhood

Your post only confirms what I said.

Any person can petition the Interior Department to remove a site from the National Register, and it's the Sec. of the Interior's decision.

Inclusion on the Register doesn't guarantee a monument's place forever. A quick google search shows that over 1750 historical sites have been removed from the National Register since 1970.

They're coming down. Get used to it.

Exactly. So demanding that their statues be removed simply because they were white southern men during that time is.........RACIST.

I gave you prejudice, lol. Although to be honest I have literally ROFL when I saw a Lincoln float in an MLK/BHM parade. Lincoln despite fallacies written to show him different was as racist as any of the ones in the statues, if not moreso. He never intended to co-exist with the slaves he authorized the purchase of Liberia and had every intention of sending every non-white or mixed race person in the Union over there.
