Possession of weed was never a felony. It was an arrestable offense (which, does not necessarily have to be a felony).

It's still a misdemeanor. A misdemeanor is a criminal offense, even though they can issue summons' instead of arrest.

that's an artificial market though
if I pay 200 for a quarter of the good stuff in New Orleans I am paying a premium based on risk and supply/demand

I forget what the prices were in Colorado but it seems like it was about the same, 30 bucks a gram or so. Up to 50 for some strains. I just don't think that legal dispensaries in the quarter would have to worry about the local demographic much at that pricing. take away the risk premium and strictly control access like they do in CO and I think it would work safely and without incident

there would always be a resale black market but those prices would be out of reach for the most part

Your definition of weed town is much different than mine because NOLA is in fact not one.

I think your prices are all fricked up. Thus, I think you have not a clue what you talk about.

It isn't as expensive as it was when they 1st opened.

WA and OR both have very good prices and it'll become even cheaper as time goes on.

It has not been decriminalized. The state did recently lower the penalty for 1st offense (for 14 grams or less). It used to be up to 6 months in jail and $500 fine, but they lowered it to a max of 15 days in jail and $300.

In reality, you'll probably just get a fine and probation, but it's not like it's just a speeding ticket you can pay. You'll go to court. And that first offense conviction also sets you up for much stiffer penalties for second or later convictions.

Louisiana Revised statute 40:966

E.(1) Possession of marijuana.(a) Except as provided in Subsection F of this Section, on a conviction for violation of Subsection C of this Section with regard to marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol, or chemical derivatives thereof, the offender shall be punished as follows:

(i) On a first conviction, wherein the offender possesses fourteen grams or less, the offender shall be fined not more than three hundred dollars, imprisoned in the parish jail for not more than fifteen days, or both.

(ii) On a first conviction, wherein the offender possesses more than fourteen grams, the offender shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars, imprisoned in the parish jail for not more than six months, or both.

a quarter is 7 grams dude
30 x 7 = 210

I paid about 30 gram in Colorado for excellent product and I pay 200/quarter locally. my point is that legal weed is expensive and there's not really a dirt weed selection at the dispensaries. So it is unlikely that the different demographics of New Orleans would affect the dispenseries and the tourist trade would be brisk

all of this is in response the thought that legal dispenseries wouldn't work in Nola. I think they would due to pricing
