2018-19 LSU Tuition and Fees = $11,949 (15 hrs fall + 15 hrs spring)
TOPS Honors (27 ACT and above) total award = $8,263
Difference = $3,686 or $1,843 per semester
That's a total of at least $14,744 for 4 years.
Yeah so $3,500/year does not quite cover the fees.

Same here. Over the last 7 years I’ve had 3 children attend college. #1 all A’s and 34 got much better offer and went to Ole Miss. #2 all A’s and 35 had better offers and chose LSU because that was how he was raised. #3 all A’s and 35 National Merit Finalist had much better offer and went to Oklahoma. LSU and Louisiana is losing great talent it may never get back. Sad but true. And in my case all 3 would have been a Tiger if the scholarships had been there.

I'm curious. As I read through this thread I see a lot of excellent grades (assuming competitive HSs) combined with excellent test scores reported for kids. With these credentials why are they not looking at stronger academic schools?

Number of reasons:
1) cost - stronger private schools are almost always much more expensive, and typically offer very limited merit-based financial aid/scholarships. Lots more-need based in an effort to pump up their diversity. For example, my son got accepted to two much stronger and more competitive universities (one private and one public) and the scholarships barely cover 1/2 the cost to attend for 4 years.
2) distance - many of those schools are in the Northeast or Midwest, and a lot of kids from Louisiana don't wish to live there because too far away or climate (or both)
3) experience - most of those schools have much smaller athletic programs and, for good or for ill, many kids want that big time" sports program at the school they attend. Not all smart kids are bookworms that hate football.

Because we earn too much for financial aid, but don't want to or can't spend $75,000 a year on multiple kids. Also depends on major.

Might want to compare the AL campus and infrastructure. LSU looks like Detroit while AL looks like Singapore.

LSU's endowment has always been low regardless. Although FKings antics during budget cuts probably didn't help.

Yeah, my kid's grades aren't that good, and both Oklahoma and Arkansas offered around $18k in scholarships.
SMU is offering around $32k,but their owverall tuition is much higher.

My son will be starting college in the fall.
I was floored by the pathetic scholarship offers from LSU compared to other state schools.
Tech offered a full ride for example.
LSU offered pocket lint and a used toothbrush by comparison.
