But you are disingenuous if you really think the red and blue of Ole Miss has anything to do with those schools.
It had everything to do with those schools They wanted to copy cat due to Harvard and Yale prestige.

You're acknowledging why the colors were chosen yet you want to create a bs argument where there is none.
battle flag = bad/racist
Nothing bad/racist about red and blue colors

It would be crazy if they named the town the same name as a town with a prestigious school in it and then modeled the colors after prestigious schools. No way a school would ever do those two things, they totally conflict with each other

There hasn't been a protest or petition to change his name yet. It's just a matter of time though.

My kid goes to Ole Miss ... I've encouraged the purchase of anything that says Ole Miss and/or Rebels that she may want to have. It's really ridiculous -- she says no one there is even concerned about the Rebels part.
They have voted to relocate a statue from the circle to the Confederate cemetery although they're "up in arms" about the plan to beautify the cemetery -- "it's glorifying it" is the outcry.

Actually nobody is really criticizing a Georgia for its flag modeled after the stars and bars. It’s the battle flag of Northern Virginia that is getting Mississippi into trouble.
As for Ole Miss’ colors, you are correct.

Oh for frick's sake. Put it in the cemetery and what it actually symbolizes is the death of the Confederacy. I don't see why that's a bad thing.

It’s a really cool statue that honors the school’s students who died in battle. Anyone offended by that statue is a simpleton. Unfortunately there are plenty of those.

I don't think that statue should be in the circle, though.

Ole Miss shouldn't have survived integration.
frick them.
frick them.

It's not. Some would be happier if it was overgrown with weeds and shrubbery than presented in a nice way. There is a law in MS. that if any statues are relocated they have to be placed in an area of like condition. OM campus is pretty well manicured so they have to make the new location reasonably on par.

It is unique. It would be pretty cool if they could somehow allow it to represent OM students who were killed during military service of any war.

Why?
Because I don't want to constantly be reminded of the Confederacy, and I'm not even black.

It is not a bad thing ... what I'm told that the ASB opposes is that it's "glorifying" to beautify the cemetery and that 2) the ASB did NOT vote on the glorification/beautification of the cemetery although the IHL said that ASB was in favor of it.
I don't care either way BUT the IHL should NOT say that it has the support of the ASB if they don't. They should still do what they want BUT don't lie about the support. My student doesn't even know where the cemetery is.

If the state of Mississippi refuses to capitulate on the flag issue, I could see myself becoming a fan of State, and not because I am in favor of their flag, but because they will have shown that they aren’t a bunch of invertebrates that cave with such ease because of people like the NCAA or SEC.
You realize both universities stopped flying the state flag on their own a while back?

They used to play Dixie.. do they still?
The West Monroe Rebels still play it. They’ve gone after them a few times with the flag stuff. I don’t know exact details, but I know they’re no longer allowed to fly it at sporting events, wear clothing with it or have the flags on campus. I have a feeling the mascot and the playing of Dixie will be next. I want to say a student already started up a petition following that racist video made by a former student.
