If they are canceling George Washington and Francis Scott Key, then how do the Ole Miss REBELS survive 2020? That retarded shark mascot on the sideline isn't fooling anyone.

They should change their name to the Admirals so they can finally embrace Admiral Ackbar

Yep, and changing the mascot won't be enough. The whole Ole Miss thing has got to go.

They could change their name to New Miss and become an HBCU.

FWIW, I believe it's the state's flag that's currently taking massive fire.

Key wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner" after he saw an American flag flying at the Battle of Fort McHenry following a victory over the British in the War of 1812. The lines he wrote turned into the national anthem.

However, Key -- whose lyrics include "land of the free" -- was an owner of slaves and defended in court slaveholders' rights to own human property, according to The Smithsonian.

If the state of Mississippi refuses to capitulate on the flag issue, I could see myself becoming a fan of State, and not because I am in favor of their flag, but because they will have shown that they aren’t a bunch of invertebrates that cave with such ease because of people like the NCAA or SEC. What ridiculousness it is for an athletic governing body and conference to try and bully a sovereign state into submission. Doing it on your own is one thing, but it’s the bullying a democratically elected sovereign state of the United States of America that gets under my skin.

NOTHING would ever allow me to become a fan of Ole Miss, but perhaps State. Hell, maybe I’ll get a cowbell to celebrate people who refuse to bend their knee just to appease the great and all powerful Borg

A couple of lines in the third verse of the Star Spangled Banner are:

"No refuge could save the hireling and slave,
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave."

that was a threat against runaway slaves who joined up with the British.

Colleague of mine's daughter (no pics) will be an Ole Miss freshman this year. She went on a campus visit and fell in love with the atmosphere. I didn't have the heart to tell her all that will be gone by the time she graduates.

shite, the retards in San Fran tore down a statue of U.S. Grant and now folks are calling for the removal of a statue of St Louis and petitioning to change the name of the city because he was crusader that was mean to Muslims and Jews. Folks are going off the damn rails right now.
