If the state of Mississippi refuses to capitulate on the flag issue, I could see myself becoming a fan of State, and not because I am in favor of their flag, but because they will have shown that they aren’t a bunch of invertebrates that cave with such ease because of people like the NCAA or SEC.
Statement from MSU President
quote:
“Since 2015, our Student Association, Robert Holland Faculty Senate and university administration have been firmly on record in support of changing the state flag. I have reiterated that view to our state's leaders on multiple occasions, including during face-to-face discussions in recent days and hours. On June 12, I wrote to the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the Mississippi House reaffirming that support. The letter said, in part, that our flag should be unifying, not a symbol that divides us. I emphasized that it is time for a renewed, respectful debate on this issue."

A couple of lines in the third verse of the Star Spangled Banner are:
"No refuge could save the hireling and slave,
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave."
that was a threat against runaway slaves who joined up with the British.
But we don't sing that part.

There is actually no evidence that the nickname "Ole Miss" derives from a racist origin. It very well might, not debating that, but there is no proof of that. I've heard people say it refers to the Mississippi River, aka the "ole Mississippi."

True, but irrelevant. FSK wrote those words, so he is a racist.

shite, the retards in San Fran tore down a statue of U.S. Grant and now folks are calling for the removal of a statue of St Louis and petitioning to change the name of the city because he was crusader that was mean to Muslims and Jews. Folks are going off the damn rails right now.
It wasn't that long ago that they wanted to tear down the Joan of Arc statue in NOLA. Joan of Arc.

Lol laugh all you want. Your traditions are next. Don’t want to fight for ours we will laugh when the BLM mob finds out the tigers connections to civil war.
quote:
According to LSU football tradition, the name came from a Civil War regiment known as the Louisiana Tigers, which distinguished itself with its fighting spirit in the battle of the Shenandoah Valley, where it was said they 'fought like tigers,'" wrote Dan Hardesty in his book, "LSU: The Louisiana Tigers."

If people outside of the SEC footprint learn this, LSU will have a decision to make. That being said, there is nothing on the surface that would tip anyone off that the Tigers name is Civil War related, so it may go unnoticed by the current movement

The problem with this is your woke professors who are almost certainly aware of this.

Think about it this way... Why would someone nickname a university after a plantation owner's wife???
Doesn't really make any sense.

And I am perfectly fine with that. What I don’t want to see happen is the NCAA or SEC to be seen as having a say so in any of it. That pisses me off, and would quite honestly make me want to wrap myself in it than give in to such absurd demands from a damn collegiate governing body and college athletic conference. Who do these people think they are?

I hear intel that they going to replace the shark and the bear with Kunta Kinte as their live mascot.

If Florida is doing away with the gator bait chant (which is based woke-ism), then literally anything is on the table. Including the name "Ole Miss," the mascot "Rebels," the grey football pants (tip of the cap to confederate uniforms), and the uniform colors (battle flag colors). And yes, Fighting Tigers will probably be changed to just "Tigers" officially, and "Bayou Bengals" will be used as well.
Not saying it is right or wrong, but it will all happen in time.

Oh you mean "Harvard Red" and "Yale Blue"? That's where they got the colors. You don't know anything about OM do you?

You're being disrespectful of non-Christians. You need to voice your annoyance with all of this in a more inclusive manner.

Those are perhaps the official colors. Just like the town was named Oxford to make it sound all smart and shite. But you are disingenuous if you really think the red and blue of Ole Miss has anything to do with those schools. Ain't nobody buying that. Look, it was a sign of the times. It was a southern pride thing, not a racist thing. But it was most certainly about the battle flag.

If they had just gone with the Ackbars, then Rebels would still fit without any confederate connotations.

what’s next bulldoze Oxford?
