I think the shoe is just another symbol of the growing lack of pride and or disdain for the country. It’s a disturbing trend.

There is a nefarious element that is attempting to sway black people into an anti-American mindset, despite this country, although through much hardship, giving their race a bigger boon than any of their other diaspora

It's not the shoe, it's the principle. Why can't your little simpleton mind comprehend this?

Maybe Nike should've said "frick off."

I mean I’m not upset but this. I’m a proud Nike shareholder.

But, to insinuate someone is not intelligent because they may be upset an enormous company that holds a ton of influence, is publicly acknowledging they believe our original flag is racist is just flat out unnecessary.

Boiling our entire country’s history down to racism is not only myopic and unfair, it will not get anyone anywhere. It’s a regressive point of view. People have a right to criticize that thought process because it is dangerous and unfair. What they are upset about is irrationality, not the other way around.

A “slave-era emblem”?? Seriously? The very name “United States of America” is a “slave-era emblem.”

The outrage isn't over the shoe, you surface dwelling dick hole. The outrage is over the fact that massive corporations are giving these uneducated crybabies a voice by actually responding to their mock offenses and thus encouraging the behavior rather than stymieing it. We're fostering an environment that just produces more and more of these weak-minded dolts. It's not good for the population.

All you’ll get from this is a reply of “MELT” by that a-hole.

Also...you wanna talk about symbols of oppression. Imagine Kaep's fury if someone ever tells him most of the clothes he wears are made with cotton.

I demand Nike take any cotton-containing apparel off shelves immediately!

Do you really think he's angry? He's made millions off fake outrage. He's laughing all the way to the bank.

Well, that's also true. And probably part of the reason people get pissed about this. Nobody in their right mind thinks Kaep (or any significant population) is actually offended by any of this. It's all a dog and pony show.

That’s the biggest rub with me. Because he’s working for a company that uses sweatshops in China to produce their products.

If you agree with Kap in any way, shape, or form over this shoe than you're a pussy too. Im so fricking sick of pussy arse people that get offended easily censoring everything in America because their fragile pussy arse psyches can't handle it.

Kap, and others like him, aren't offended. It's just another method to silence opposition to the progressive movement. They identify symbols, institutions, and activities favored by the mainstream and then concoct ways to get those things banned or restricted.

I think what continues to be lost in this types of situations is intent.

If an otherwise innocuous symbol is used with no ill intent, that's not racist...even if someone else somewhere uses it with racist intent (in this case apparently it's a small/unknown group).

A flag represents many things, and obviously this is yet another situation of people scraping for any opportunity to be offended or play the victim card.

If we're able to connect and vilify a flag from a particular time in our country's history, it will be possible to connect and vilify anything from that era in some way...including our founding fathers, institutions that were around then. Everything is effectively "evil/racist".

And yet here you are crying about it on a message board. Do something about it.

I think the issue is that since there's been a crackdown on the Confederate flag, white nationalist groups have taken on this flag as theirs.

And?

What happens if the KKK decides to take on the pride flag? Does that automatically change its meaning and therefore should be banned?
