Unfortunately the ocean is huge and it is common for no body to ever be found

Yep. They never found the body of the 14 year old kid from BR that was caught in a rip current in Orange beach, it happened in May of 2022.

As a parent it breaks my heart to see stories like these.

Search has been suspended pending any further developments

NASSAU - Agencies have suspended the search in the Bahamas for missing U-High graduate Cameron Robbins on Friday "pending further developments." A representative with the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed to WBRZ that the Royal Bahamas Defense Force had called off the search and was no longer requesting assistance from the Coast Guard. According to a report obtained by WBRZ on Friday, the situation was first reported to the Coast Guard around 9:55 p.m. Wednesday. Robbins was reportedly aboard the Blackbeard's Revenge, a sunset cruise charter based out of Nassau, with other recent grads. The boat was just south of Athol Island when Robbins, 18, reportedly jumped overboard into roughly 15-foot-deep water, triggering a widespread search involving multiple rescue boats and helicopters. The report also noted that inclement weather that night complicated the search as well. Athol Island is about 2 miles to the northeast of Nassau. As of Friday, the search had covered more than 221 square nautical miles. Graphics included in the document lay out flightpaths and more for the aircraft used in the search.

The Advocate article says the water was 16 feet deep. That doesn't sound accurate, but if it is, it's very strange they haven't found anything.
shallow coastal waters more current and more vigorous tidal action than deeper waters.

What transpired before? Drunken mistake or suicide?

As a mom, this is horrifying. I didn’t say anything negative about the parents allowing their kids to go. It’s a time to celebrate.

We went to the Bahamas with Gradweek for my senior trip (st michael 09) that was the year the kid jumped off the cruise ship that was docking in the bahamas, dont believe they found his body either. its a wonder this dosent happen more often every year with how drunk a bunch of teens get at these things. i know ours was full of debauchery

It's a pretty big ocean. Shall they search it until the body is found no matter what?

The water doesn’t have to be very cold to cause hypothermia when you’re in it for an extended period of time.

That boat looks large (assuming there’s only one pirate boat in Nassau)

Believe it or not, there are several pirate boat cruise operators.

At that age you feel invincible. Graduating high school, about to go to college. Your whole life is in front of you. I often wonder how me or any of my buddies didn’t die with the amount of dumb stuff we did. They were celebrating, having a great time, and just being kids like we all did. It is one of the more awful stories I have read because most of us have been around Very similar situations back in those days. I pray for the family, the poor kid who dared him and all the others that witnessed it.

I was just there a few months ago. I noticed that boat. It’s a floating rusty POS. The water is pretty chilly at 85°, I couldn’t imagine floating around in the evening out there without the sun. The sharks are also everywhere.

Sad to say that kid is a goner.
