I’ll be honest, I lnew About this because I’m jewish and have an interest in history.
But I dont Think any of my high school history classes made it past the civil war. And I took AP US History.

AP US History today covers from 1491 to present. Sometimes its divided into two different classes. Pretty sure you got shafted.

"The 6 million isn't a precise number.....almost always a wide variety on the estimates of death"? The only variety comes from Holocaust deniers. The 6 million figure is widely accepted by historians. The rape of Nanking's numbers vary because there was no systematic documentation on the part of the Japanese.Germans, on the other hand, documented everything, from the mthly number of deaths to the amount in pounds of the amount of gold derived from the teeth of the murdered. The death squads in the East listed extremely detailed numbers & locations.

That’s much more understandable. The only really famous ghetto I can think of this the Warsaw Ghetto and I can see people having trouble remembering the concentration camps due to all the names being very foreign

when i was at LSU in the 90s, Elie Wiesel did a presentation at the Union that i attended
there were 2 people at the entrance holding up signs saying "6 million lies"

I’m by no means a Holocaust denier. 6 million is definitely not an exact number. Many historians put it closer to five million. However it has no significant impact on the impact of the Holocaust. Whether it was five or six million it is one of the most horrible things to ever occur

Hell, "The Diary of Anne Frank" is required reading in lower schools. How that book didn't spur a reader to learn more about that atrocity is beyond me.

To piggy back onto this a lot of the numbers we get come from Soviet sources which are... less than reputable sometimes.

The fact that people age 18-40, considered young adults are unaware of the tragedy of the Holocaust is shocking to say the least.
