As opposed to socialism that inflates the cost of everything to over compensate unskilled labor?

I didn’t say they were right. But this elementary idea that all forms of capitalism are good is silly. Young people look at a system that imports millions of unskilled laborers that flood the job market and inflate the cost of everything and then other jobs are virtually outsourced to low wage foreigners and will inherently reject that every time.

Capitalism will not survive in America if American businesses put profit over everything. Unchecked capitalism is not a good thing and will inevitably lead to corporatism.

Because. We keep outsourcing work. When most Americans can’t find jobs, then what? Between cheap labor and AI, we are screwed. A cashier should receive minimum wage. That’s on them if they choose to take the position. Engineers are being replaced with Indians (I have a retired engineer friend so heard about it some years ago.). Someone here said Dallas is ran over with Indians and he was having to move or had to move to find a job. We are on a slippery slope.

This is exactly what everyone that knows economics said what would happen when minimum wage laws began pushing it up.

Next year the minimum wage in New York will be either 17.00 an hour or 16.00 for other areas.

Everyone that understood said loopholes would be found and automation would begin taking over. All those people that knew they would be right… were right.

What would the double standard be?

From a tipping perspective if the person is providing value and giving you good service, I don't see why you wouldn't tip them something.

Wrong. They need to pay decent wages to Americans. This should be illegal.

This is a dumb take and makes no sense.

Fight for Fifteen... livable wages... prevailing pay...

It isn't a tip left up to the customer to calculate but an automatic base gratuity of 18%... unless I read that wrong.

This isn't local law that they're skirting around, it's federal.

They're not skirting any law. The employee lives in the Philippines. Or are you suggesting that every company should pay every employee in every country where they have people the US minimum wage or higher? Cool, start with Apple and Nike

That's the beauty of capitalism. People can take their business wherever they want and if this owner takes a huge hit they would very likely bring back a real person serving customers. They can run their business as they see fit so long as they're not breaking the law.

I wonder how many of the people in this thread bitching about not paying an American the minimum wage or better to do that job were also in favor of open borders and 30,000,000 illegals or more flooding the US (and those businesses that used that illegal labor paying less than the minimum wage actually WERE breaking the law).

I highly doubt it was the business owners who were advocating for an inflated minimum wage. As the owners they can pay their employees whatever they want anyway...the minimum wage or more.

In the video you can hear the girl say "some people" tip her. So no, it's not automatic.

I stayed at a hotel like this in Portland Maine, and even then someone in person greeted us. Never saw them again though.

This. WTF are people supposed to do for work.

Chasing margin improvement by shrinking your workforce via AI, outsourcing, etc will be the death of America.

The poor will get poorer and the rich will get richer to a point.

It's great that we live in a country where someone can become a billionaire. Elon musk has more wealth than half the country combined. But how many meals does he eat a day? How many cars does he drive a day? How many lawns does he need cut?

He's one person that's done well but you absolutely need to have working class jobs to support the nations economy. When people truly WANT to work and can't find jobs then that's a big arse problem.

These are layoffs from just this year? Just from what I quickly look at below that's double the population of Baton Rouge. How many of these people will be able to find another job? Regardless of how you feel about the company, federal employees etc. When people can't work then there are going to be huge societal problems

Federal - 300,000
UPS - 48,000
Nestle - 16,000
Amazon - 14,000
Intel - 24,000
Kroger - 1,000
Accenture - 11,000
ConocoPhillips - 3,000
Bosch - 13,000
Dell - 12,000
Nissan - 11,000
GM - 1,700
Target - 1,000
