How is this any different than ordering from a tablet/ screen with no humans involved?

Because there’s no human involved.

Because if a tablet is taking your order, then the job doesn't exist.

If the job exists, it should go to Americans.

Frankly, cashier jobs are going away through technology in the near future, so no one in this country should count on that as a living.

We are going to have to come to terms with the fact that we will have a lot of unemployed folks in the future due to advancement.

We have to figure out how to afford this.

Well, at least the cashiers don’t have to worry about getting jumped by the locals. In the Philippines, yes they
the hoodlums in nyc will fly to the Philippines to jump the cashiers?

They're also outsourcing Hotel check-in now. Why not just fully automate it?

Yep.

I know some hotels that have mobile check ins and you use the app as your room key.

You don’t even need to speak with anyone at the desk.

There s nothing illegal or immoral about cutting costs where possible. If you cut the cost of operating a restaurant you can make the cost of serving customers lower and returns on the investment higher. It’s what every consumer operation should do, whether a restaurant, a clothing store, or a shoeshine specialist.

Maybe bringing those manufacturing jobs back onshore makes a little bit of sense

This is what happens when the price of local labor is artificially skewed by the government

Wrong. They need to pay decent wages to Americans. This should be illegal.

Why is a low skilled person like a cashier owed a “decent wage”? Business isn’t a charity. Do you have any idea how expensive it is to run a low margin restaurant like that in a place like NYC? The government artificially inflated the cost of local labor and the business owner responded accordingly. Nothing about that should be “illegal.”

Like it or not, we are in a global market.

People don't think of their local restaurants as global businesses

This will backfire on them

Doesn’t matter. The losers who expect to live in NYC on a dishwasher salary will have the local politicians up in arms.

Someone in NYC needs to wash dishes

And obviously it isn't a virtual job

They're paying 45% of the federal minimum (and I'm guessing aren't paying SS burdens, FUI, SUI or anything like that)

This isn't local law that they're skirting around, it's federal.
