New policies effective on Sept 1, 2023.

Here is a link to the new policies. Scroll down the page to see the new stuff.

Here is a sample.

Out-of-Cart Collections
The City-Parish is implementing new policies designed to spur more efficient collection of out-of-cart waste. Residents should adhere to the policies outline below to support proper, timely collection:

Maximum of 10 out-of-cart items per collection day.
Maximum weight of 40 pounds per item.
Brush and lawn debris must be bundled or bagged.
Brush and bundles must be no more than 5 feet in length.
Tree limbs must be no more than 6 inches in diameter and 5 feet in length.

No details on how many street racers you're allowed to set by the curb?

How about I just burn my tree limbs in the front yard then?

These 2 are a problem.

…And we all get to pay more for this service thanks to our Metro Council

How do you “bundle” tree limbs? This is so stupid. Are they not using trucks with claws anymore?

Well I have an empty 55 gallon steel drum that I will now use as a burn barrel.

Wait a minute. I thought we were supposed to throw all of our trash out of our vehicles and into the streets?

If you put yard debris out you're lucky if they pick it up within a month. Also Baton Rouge is the only place I've ever lived where neighborhood trash pick-up is programmed for twice a week. Most other places it's once.

No, first you throw it in their trucks so it can fly out later.

These two seem to be an issue. Do they not still use the big trucks with the claw?

Or do the taxpayers now have to pay tree removal companies to remove their debris over 6" in diameter?

They'll still be available but you have to schedule them to come out and pay extra for that service now.

Can't wait to see how this plays out after a hurricane.

ETA. All else aside, it's nice to see that they are at least trying to improve the visual aesthetics of the city you're likely to be murdered in though.

They don't pick up after named storms anyway. Debris pick up gets bid out to the lowest offer and then nothing happens for months. Meanwhile, the normal pickup continues to operate as normal and they ignore the massive piles of limbs; even though they would pick them up any other time.

the past month I’ve seen them use them, but I’ve also seen a couple men picking up the sticks with their hands. Probably like a once a month thing with the claw

Lol as if. The guys on my route in BR won’t touch the garbage can if the lid is even one inch ajar. If you put something next to the trash can you can forget about it. I put out a box next to the can for weeks just to see if they would get it and then they ignored my actual trash a couple times to rub it in. Maybe it’s the nice neighborhood but I get the feeling that some racism and “I’ll show you” is at play. Thought about documenting it and calling the company but we all know what good that would do.
