I agree. They kept different factions in a perimeter and under control. Made sure that groups didn't bite the hand that fed it. Since they were busted up, it has been the wild west for the gangs.

Ask anyone from New Orleans East. That’s where the flat tire came and city hall didn’t have a spare. It was and is still ashame. When was 1985- 1990 as section 8 was abused and destroyed neighborhoods block by block.

It was always corrupt. However, Dutch Morial brought it to a whole new f*cking level. Then, his beyond-f*cking-corrupt son put that on steroids. But, the late 70s was the start of the massive decline.

They didn't.

I'm pretty sure the wheels were stolen by some locals...

Felt like Nola had a revitalization post-Katrina till roughly 2013-2014
This is correct. People will say the fall was Katrina. But the real fall began in 2012 . when the NOPD entered the Consent Decree. And the final nail in the coffin was January 11,2013 when the court approved it.

Was thinking of when and then I thought, what does it matter? It’s gone.

The fact this is something to be proud of is New Orleans and Louisiana’s biggest problem. Meanwhile crooked politicians eat, but it’s ok because you can get drunk and piss on the street.

When the major oil companies started to move out, it gutted New Orleans of its middle class.
Many native New Orleanians stayed, but for the most part, the city was left with the super rich St. Charles Ave crowd and the poorer folks.
A great city can’t survive with that.

Started when Moon got elected and went into hyper drive when Morial got elected.

BTR downtown was something my grandma talked about in the 50-60's, shopping, vitality. It was basically dead my entire life, then sparked up for a few years before I left. I had great times in downtown from 2006-2014. I suppose it's dead again.
There’s a built-in customer base for nightlife of about 30,000 people 1.1 miles away. Downtown BR should be going strong. When I was in school, Happy’s, Boudreaux & Thibodaux’s, Huey’s, Lucy’s etc. were always a great time. There were even a bunch of bars that catered to the white trash crowd coming over the river: Punchers and City Bar
Now, with the availability of Uber and Lyft, its very odd that downtown isn’t more developed.

mid 80s to mid 90s New Orleans was far more dangerous for the average citizen resident or visitor than it is now. I know, I was there, and was an occasional victim
