This is so fricking stupid. Really.

I'm going to politely request that you get a better source on airport design and forecasting potential future NOLA aviation trends.....
TIA.

I'm all for this. MSY fricking blows. The baggage claim is just abysmal and everything is inefficient. I know people that work there and have worked at other airports that say its amazing how well msy runs considering how outdated and inefficient the things they have to work with are.
As long as they make this airport forward thinking, accounting for what they will need in 20 years, and give themselves room to play, expand, and change, it will be great.
Airports now are built with wide concourses, tons of options, CHARGING STATIONS, open air feel to them. Hopefully the airport will be very modern.
Having lower fees and a modern airport will also attract new airlines and more direct flights. And hopefully some fricking direct flights to the Caribbean and S America.
I'm excited. Long overdue.
And don't listen to Kaare Johnson. He knows jack and shite.

I just like to look at everything with an eye on efficient use of resources. I think a lot of our overall problems is the notion that there is this magical pot of money that we can use on certain things, where we don't have to consider efficient use of resources in certain endeavors.
I see there may be valid arguments that this, indeed, is an efficient use of resources. The fact that $270+ million was JUST spent on the old terminal remains a bit problematic in my mind.
That is certainly a valid viewpoint. In this case in particular, the recent upgrades to the old terminal seem a bit more problematic than the new addition.
Now, when it comes to the grant programs, that's a budgetary issue that starts with your local politicians and ends in Washington. Personally, I don't mind public spending on infrastructure, as it usually helps business and the economy. I also don't mind Louisiana taking what they can from the available pots as I think we deserve it when you consider how important our region is to supplying a large portion of the nation with access to good and services through our port, rail, and highway systems. We need to keep our infrastructure up to par so that we can continue to compete with other distribution hubs.

Waste of a good Jesuit edumakation.
I am all for this. Those of us who do fly realize just what a POS MSY really is. It's a terrible reflction of the city. I fly in to Dulles very often. That airport has got to be about as old as MSY. No comparison.

This is great as now Kenner can start to fix up the Veterans corridor in Kenner to go along with the Improved Metaire section.

Absolutely. If you build it, they will come.
You have to keep your infrastructure modern, or even ahead of the curve. When business people fly in, the first thing they see is shitty arse MSY. A modern airport is a great thing to have.

Wait, why does one of the red roads run across the blue runway?
That was a GA runway and it hasn't been used for a long time.

2018 will bring in this new airport, a possible, return of Navy Fleet week with airshow, etc, and maybe a Super Bowl announcement

I'm hopeful, but skeptical that this is what this is about.

Ok... Guess the FBO's are on board. Or they may not have a choice....
The FBO's are being given the concourse area that is in place. They will have to do construction around them. Look at how many times the FBOs moved around at NEW. That airport is nice now and most of the FBO traffic will be focused over there anyway.
The runways can handle a 737.

Would be the greatest thing ever, but Lester went to Rummel if memory serves.

is that the design is made looking to have our airport on par with some of the international airports across the U.S. The problem is, those airports were built 20 years ago looking forward. Our design is not looking forward to be competitive 20-30 years from now.

CHARGING STATIONS
I carry a power strip in my carry on luggage. I'm usually pretty popular in the Gate area, as I'll find that random hidden plug at MSY and plug up and share 3-4 of my ports.
