What about jobs? Commitments to infrastructure improvements? Etc.
Tax revenue is great, just curious about the holistic benefit here. I've got no dog in the hunt, though.

Unless they are adding a new rail it is a single line through heavy residential.
That should make the port do significant infrastructure upgrades but they won't.

I am no expert but they have lady that is in charge of the port on Newell Normand’s show on WWL often and there will be all kinds of benefits beyond tax revenue. Despite that more tax revenue obviously equates to better streets, parks, and overall holistic development as you put it. Have you been to violet recently. It can’t go anywhere but up.

They are building a special access road so shouldn’t impact traffic. I guarantee you they have spent tons of money on traffic impact studies
The state has put out $50 million already just to study the new corridor. They want to put the thing right through protected wetland. It will likely stay hung up in permit hell for decades.
Meanwhile. A very small 2 lane highway will get almost 2000 extra 18 wheelers a day. It's going to be a nightmare for a large chunk of the parish.

Will it utilize automated container transfers?

How much property tax does the state owned facility pay?

So it will be like the Baton Rouge loop?

Pretty much. The access corridor is a separate project from LIT. I'll never see that road finished in my lifetime.

Interesting. I wonder how much propety tax port nola currently pays.

estimates that it will increase jobs in the parish by more than one third, increase tax revenues by nearly 60% and generate close to $100,000 in tax dollars per day.
I get that the locals might not want a port by their house. However, this seems like it would be a huge net positive for that area. Every time there is development of any kind, especially industrial, the locals oppose it because they don't want development in their back yard. This does not mean that the it should be stopped. Something has to drive industry, jobs, and taxes.

The way I look at it is the current port backs up to uptown and operates without anyone really being impacted other then Tchoupitoules traffic. Highest price per sf in Nola with a port right there

Huey Long is cackling in his grave and wondering how he missed such a golden opportunity to tweek the backsides of NOLA aristocrats.
