Crime is down nationally. We can debate as to why (most likely a combination of Roe v Wade and in-home entertainment being relatively affordable), but don't confuse it with NOLA's government doing something right. It was still 4th worst in the US per capita in 2015.

that's right. But my point is that crime in NOLA is NOT getting more out of control, as many here proclaim.

OK fine. It isn't MORE out of control.

But it is no where near under control. That doesn't make it a less shitty place.

You can't say that here. That's blasphemous on the OT

Early 90s were peak or near downslope of crime for almost every American. Sociologist have tide it to 10000x different reason, even to say it's tied to the use of lead in gasoline LINK

I didn't. ANd I also said crime still remains a major problem in NOLA. But the haters conveniently leave that part out because it does not fir their narrative

Bragging about the NOLA rate of murder going down is like a kid bragging about getting an F in school with a 59, instead of a 40. It's still a failing grade.

But all the drama about it worsening is...well unfounded drama.

There needs to be drama about it, record rate or not. Even 100 is far too many. Plus I wonder how much the numbers might be fudged.

Does anyone know the rate of murder of a stranger now vs the 1990's? Is it expanding beyond the drug traders. I can recall being fairly safe in the French Quarter all hours of the night during the 1990's when the general NOLA murder rate was at an all time high.

I really hope you are a troll,

He is definitely a troll. After LSU won the BCS championship game in 2004, he trolled hard about USC being the true champion, split champion, etc. Even his username is an obscure troll at LSU being invited to the Tangerine Bowl and not a more prestigious bowl game. Eventually, people paid less attention to his posts and his posts became more and more disjointed and disturbing. Either he was banned or was smart enough to take a mental health break from TD.

A couple of years pass and he shows back up with a new troll shtick- social justice warrior with a case of white guilt. The guy doesn't believe what he posts. He's only looking for a reaction or an argument that brings him the attention he does not receive in real life. It's sad, actually.

That makes more sense than abortion. Crime peaked around 1994, when the benefits should already have kicked in, as those born in 1973 would have been 21 years old.

Reduction of environmental lead came a few years later and would have been reflected in the crime rates of the late 1990s.

I guess I am not following your logic here. You are arguing with people on the internet that are upset with murder and crime in a great city because you think it is a celebration that not as many murders happened than the year before?

This site is full of idiots.

Most of the murders in the 90's were concentrated to Cain city.

That's what I was saying.

Has the perpetrator vs stranger murders gone up now vs the 1990s?

What area would that be considered now?
I'm assuming the crack epidemic hit it's high point in the late 90's and gangs were a much bigger piece of the problem than they are now.

NOLA crime has been out of control for a long time. Just because we aren't setting record highs doesn't mean we aren't still the worst crime rate per capita in the country. Your post included significant evidence that we are still far and away the worst per capita, and that's a scary thought. Highest crime rate per capita means people in Nola are more likely to be the victim of violent crime than anywhere else in the country. That needs to be addressed, it's a very serious issue

When you are able to define what the statistic even is in the first place, then you can manipulate it.

You can't easily manipulate murders and non-fatal shootings. Those are seen by the coroner and hospitals, so the reports are legit most of the time.

Most other crime stats correlate strongly with the murder rate.

Yeah, you can manipulate some small stuff and some stats (like rape) are not reliable. But murders are.
