Now, despite several years of declining violence, a new NPR-Kaiser Family Foundation poll finds that 64 percent of people who live in New Orleans say that a decade after Katrina, there has been little to no progress in controlling crime.

That sounds like many on the OT.

Despite those concerns, statistics show crime is actually down in New Orleans, and murder dropped for three years straight starting in 2011. In 2014, the city's murder tally — at 150 — was the lowest it had been in more than 40 years.

But even with that effort, New Orleans still has a murder rate that's almost four times the average for a city its size — and much higher than big cities such as Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. By early July, murders hit triple digits, two months earlier than in recent years. Harrison says that's not due to a rise in gang crime.

14 was lower with a nonsignificant increase in 2015. 2016, we are down relative to years past.

and pretty much everything else is down from 10-15 years ago, except rape.

Not saying NOLA does not have a violent crime problem, because it does. But all the drama about it worsening is...well unfounded drama. My point is that crime in NOLA is NOT getting more out of control, as many here proclaim.

So you're cool with murder as long as it doesn't exceed recocord highs? Noted.

If you wake up one morning and your a-hole is gushing blood and then you wake up the next morning and it's more like a slow drip of blood, it's better but it's still a problem.

This city is going down the shitter though.

Those stats about crime aren't the only reason New Orleans is becoming a third world shithole again.

Not at all. I am uncool with those who whine that NOLA crime is getting more out of control.

I think the biggest concern is the location of the crimes.

What's crazy is how high it spiked after Katrina with way less population.

Overall Crime Rate

Dallas is having big problems right now.

The governor sent several highway patrolmen to Dallas to help quell the crime.

The "crime stats" reported by Dallas PD are being criticized for lulling citizens into believing things were safer than they really were.

Those same stats comprise the FBI statistics.

When you are able to define what the statistic even is in the first place, then you can manipulate it.

Dallas PD said they wouldn't respond to thefts less than 50 dollars, that they complainant had to fill out all these forms and do follow-up, so most little stores that have Pookie run in and steal a case of beer just said "frick it."

You can stick your crime stats up your rear.

Could it be that city officials felt the need to call in the State Troopers in order to get crime under control? With crime dropping the way it has, I'm surprised that was necessary.
