Don't attempt to walk to Bourbon St. from your hotel. You will die.
You vaginas should stop posting in these kind of threads. There are something like 12 million people coming through Nola a year for a shitton of events. It's very very very rare that they have problems.
OP, go search over on the food board for drink and restaurant suggestions.
Do not go to Cafe Du Monde downtown. If you feel the need to have that, catch the street car on Canal and ride out to City Park. It's a nice place to visit and there is a Cafe Du Monde there that almost never has a line. You will get to see some other parts of the city as well.

Parkway Bakery - large roast beef po-boy fully dressed, side of fries add gravy, banana pudding, barq's rootbeer.
While you're out that way.Swing by Angelo Brocato, pick-up a dozen canoli, for later
You will have to Uber. It is worth the trip.
Jacques-Imo's - take streetcar down Saint Charles to Oak Street, you can see all of Saint Charles, Tulane, Loyola, etc.
Live-Oak - brunch - same directions as Jacques-Imos.
In the FQ. Don't get blind drunk. Stay east of Canal, south of Burgundy and west of Frenchman. Keep you head on a swivel and stay frosty, night or day. There are crazies down there that might take a poke at you "just because".
Not a local, but in the FQ I like Mr. B's. IIRC it's in the Brennen family, but not as "formal" and/or $$$ as Commanders, Galatoris, Irene's.
Adolfo's on Frenchman is good but no reservations and you'll wait an hour+.
Get a muff from Central Grocery, right before they close. They pre-make them in the am and run out mid-afternoon, so last batch to close-out the day is fresh.
Late-night snack: Crescent City Pizza Co. and tea-bag Kyrstal on Bourbon - be careful.

You’re in a good area. For food, always do uptown or Garden District, as the food downtown is overhyped. The Bulldog is a great bar that you’ll probably like, and it’s Uptown. As for food, Gris Gris is good (pronounces gree gree), and if you’re in to Vietnamese, Mint is the best. Get the Mint Tea while you’re there

Much better breakfast options in town.
Like the Cafe du Monde on Veterans. Same food and coffee, no line.

The GF and I we’re killing some time walking around Jackson square last weekend and I couldn’t believe the line to get in. There must have been 200 people waiting to get in
I was there Thanksgiving week and it was the same. Completely insane. We would hit it up late at night when it was quiet and no lines.

CDM on Vets is my favorite as well...and you can park!!!
that being said, if you have the chance to hit CDM at Jackson Square, it's one of those touristy things you should do...beginets are great to soak up booze after you've been drinking...

If you are in the quarter
Brunch at Court of two sisters is really good.
Ton's of great places to eat. From expensive to cheap.
We like
$$$ GW Fins, Nola's, Brennan's, Mr B's
$$ Deanies,
$ Johnny's po Boys
As far as drinking in the quarter. Everyone should have a hurricane at Pat O's. Its an historic institution. I like Lafitte's Blacksmith shop further down Bourbon, Old Absinthe and some of the older more historic bars.
The french quarter is fine if you aren't stupid. Never had an issue in 20 years going down there.

OP do not do this. Complete tourist trap.
Many better places to eat than that place.
Café Amelie
Arnaud's
Outside of the FQ the list is endless.

Good lord that’s some terrible advice.

I legitimately feel sorry for you. There are just so many cold blooded people in New Orleans who are predatory carnivores who will just destroy your world for the fun of it with absolutely no regrets or conscience. The Burrow Gang is the worst.
Consider staying home.

If you like Koolaid.
If you want the best Hurricane in the city, head to Lafitte's.

Thanks for all the advise, this is awesome. Never know the responses you’ll get in such a thread.
Seems like pretty endless options of great food and bars which is exactly what I figured.
One more question is there a music venue that’s just a must? Like a Tootsie’s in Nashville (not that it’s the greatest spot ever). But a bunch of country music history in that honkey tonk which I think is really cool. I enjoy jazz music but definitely not as into the scene as I am county.

Check the line ups at House of Blues and Tipitinas. I’m sure there will be some shows lined up all over the city that weekend.
Also check the Civic, Howling Wolf, Maple Leaf Bar and The Republic.

Arse, have you had a Cubano from Monolito yet? Stumbled across this little place. Good eat and drinks.

Don't be fooled by the "World of Weed" van. There is no weed, just bad tasting candy.
