A guy i used to work with moved to Hardin County Tennessee. He bought a 10 acre place with a farmhouse that he remodeled, a pond, and a huge barn. His place is just a few miles from the Shiloh Battlefield.

Both him and his wife are able to work from home, and they have a son that is in HS that goes to a private Christian School. he said that there is almost no violent crime, most of the crime is things like theft.

He loves it there and comes back to NOLA about twice a year to visit with family and friends, a day's drive.

The demographics there are suprising, a lot different than SE Louisiana.

You realize that by marrying her, you are now technically part of her family?

Having family nearby would be a tiebreaker but you can’t go wrong with middle or East Tennessee. Stay away from Memphis.

I get the draw, it's beautiful, open range, etc.

But I can't help to imagine the culture, and climate shock for the average Louisianian. Louisiana Summers suck but frick 50-BELOW winters, hell naw.

Is this merely your opinion or do you have actual empirical evidence to this statement?

Literally millions of people live in areas where they may or may not have family nearby and seem to be just fine and happy.

My wife and I moved to The Woodlands (suburb north of Houston) from Louisiana and love it. It was recently voted to best place to live in America in some online poll and I believe it.

Plenty of entertainment and shopping options. Tons of great restaurants as well. Close enough to the city to go to a play, pro sports event, concerts, etc. Speaking of concerts, I live only 5 minutes from the pavilion and saw DMB in May and have tickets to two more concerts this summer.

I don't have kids but have heard the schools are great as well. I was surprised at how affordable the real estate is, especially compared to some other states out west.

What?
You move from slidell to the Westbank and didn't expect it to get bad?
Unless you live in crown point or Lafitte your going to have crime. In order to get to both locations you have to go through a shithole

Our founding fathers were well intentioned but Chile’s Presidential form of government only lasted 150 years. The US is going on 250 years and showing major signs of imploding. Parliamentary systems aren’t significantly better, but the social decay in those nations doesn’t approach what is going on in the US.

It's a people problem, not a system problem.

OP needs to move to a place where he fits in and away from the hoodrats and communists.

If you want to try and stay near relatives, I'd suggest NW Arkansas.

Florida panhandle. All the benefits of Florida without too many Yankees and transplants like south Florida.

Is a fascinating place to me. It’s people who enjoy paying excess money for a vacation to be with the same people they routinely hang out with at home. Not my idea of a vacation, but hey, different strokes right.

They use a property tax instead. Why? Because it incentivizes development to monetize property.

Explain that part to me because I'm not seeing it. How does a large property tax incentivize development?

Saw some things yesterday that may indicate Mandeville/Northshore is slowly going WOKE. Slidell is already rapidly being flushed down the sewer system too.

If you live in Texas and work in another state you have to pay that states taxes. I assume you are saying they moved to Houston and work there?

Greatest decision you'll ever make! Not everyone has that option so take it if you can and consider yourself lucky!
