My top parades:
Hermès
Krewe d’etat
Bacchus

Reviews of the top parades:
Rex - Was extremely disappointed with the new Royal Artists design of the parade. I enjoyed the theme, but the floats left a lot to be desired and didn’t have the shimmer they normally do. As always they have a nice variety of throws, and enjoyed their theme stuff.

Endymion - Another parade I was very disappointed in regards to float design. I think in years past they have held the mantle for best floats, but think this year they took a giant step backwards. The theme was nice, but I felt most props were very small and lazy. As always, they toss probably the most in Mardi Gras.

Thoth - I may catch flack for this, but simply a bulk parade that cares more about throws than float design or theme adherence. Pretty sure most floats barely change from year to year. Iris fits in with this as well.

Hermès - The most elaborate old style floats and adherence to a classical theme. I felt they threw a little less than in years past, but overall was a very good parade.

Krewe D’Etat - my favorite of the satirical parades (though chaos came very strong). They picked a very good theme to match current events.

Bacchus -I was down on Bacchus for several years, but they did an incredible job with float design to carry out the theme of the Wild West. They also had a variety of cool throws that coincided with the theme.

Orpheus - a very underrated parade in my opinion that always far fewer than the other super krewes, but always puts on a solid show. Their float styles always have a great blend of modern and classical.
Random musings:
- Was surprised how none of the satire parades came out and hit latoya with a direct shot. Perhaps they felt retribution would be in the offing if they had.
- I didn’t want to grade muses or chaos due to their abbreviated nature.

You need pictures and a southern gothic reminescence from your childhood.

If true, who in the hell did they go after? Overzealous meter maids?

As far as throwing less, I can't speak for other riders but I splurged on a parade pack of throws and I had a ton of stuff, still a whole bag left even after the parade ended.

This was my first year going to Rex. What other than the jester is one of their signature floats? I assume those didn’t change or did royal artists redesign those too?

I’ve never seen it, I think I’d like to see it for the signature floats, but think it’s another parade that doesn’t care about theming or artisanship.

I had a couple people in D'etat tell me they were explicitly told not to take direct shots at Da'mayor but that could just be bullshite.

I think they only have a handful of their own floats (King's float and Mr. Big Shot are good), with the rest being generic Blaine Kern rentals.

Zulu skimps on the design in favor of the costuming / body paint.

RA's other local parades are Proteus, Chaos, and D'etat. None of them are known for shimmering glamour, but rather, old-school bright paint designs.

I think they do a lot of the design themselves, but I've heard from multiple sources that they are also going with Royal Artists in 2021.
