To put it into to perspective, the murder rate per capita in New Orleans is higher than in deadly countries like Colombia, South Africa, Jamaica and El Salvador. If Orleans Parish were a country, it would be the fourth most dangerous place on earth.

The per capita murder rate in Orleans Parish is more than five times higher than the homicide rate globally, which comes in at 8 murders per 100,000 people. You are five times more likely to become a murder
But everyone here has been to NOLA and survived.

Stats are not true.

Don't you live in Birmingham? Y'all are right up there too

ETA - in 2016 Birmingham was the 3rd most violent city in America behind St Louis and Detroit

The only thing I'll say about crime rates in Nola is that they are based on residential population. At any given moment, there are probably twice as many people in the city limits as the actual number of residents.

Still dangerous, but I suspect reality skews slightly better than the numbers.

Already love the city for these things. They are all great for visits but not to live for the next 30 years...

Umm...everyone here has been everywhere they've ever been and survived

I'm sure we have a few combat veterans here. That doesn't make a shooting war a safe place to be.

Until you realize property theft is a huge issue that affects all citizens. And rarely do those cases ever get solved.

No, New Orleans is a broke city that does nothing to encourage the people that are worth having as citizens to come or even stay. Just got home from there.

I wish I were wrong but it is a city void of opportunity both professionally and politically

Obviously some professions are doing well there

It's a decent but not great place for my line of work

There is plenty of professional opportunity in this city, in certain industries / lines of work.

Now political... yeah sure... but politics is crappy all over.
