the vibe is one of positive outlook. The city is on a definite upswing.
The vibe is positive because Mitch is finally about to leave. But LaToya gets sworn in tomorrow. May God help us all.

My favorite experiences in New Orleans are when I am in the company of friends from another part of the country and I have to translate for them in their interactions with fellow Americans ostensibly speaking the same tongue. What a joke.
They have a lot of cajuns in the gay bars?

Most there lived much longer than expected. It was a miracle Knockum made it past 15.

Are you trying to convince the OT or yourself? Infrastructure is the worst it's ever been. High paying jobs are scarcer than political viability. Corporations generally run from the city. Crime in "good neighborhoods" is very common. So crime is less than the 80s/90s when no one with the ability to avoid it even entered the city? Wow.
It's obviously a city in steep decline. Fun shite to do. Interesting history - which coincidentally proves how steep a decline it is in. Great food. Good music. Good festivals.
But no. According to documented facts and the basic maths, It has been trending down for many decades.

Excellent news. Been here in Lakeview for 6 years and fixing to sell my house and get my family out of here.

Don't you live in Birmingham? Y'all are right up there too
ETA - in 2016 Birmingham was the 3rd most violent city in America behind St Louis and Detroit

I never made the erroneous claim that Birmingham's crime was trending down like OP did about New Orleans. And I was born and raised in New Orleans, so I have no qualms about contributing to OP's conversation.
Also from the link:

It would be difficult to argue New Orleans has become a safer city under Landrieu. The homicide rate under Landrieu is down slightly, but not enough to brag about. There were 175 murders the first year he took office. The same number were killed in 2016 but the number dropped to 157 in 2017. But 585 people were shot in 2017. Some argue fewer gunshot victims are dying as a result of medical advances, and that’s why the homicide rate has remained mostly flat.
But when you look past the homicide rate and include robberies, assaults, and other violent crime, success is hard to find. Violent crime is up more than 70 percent since Landrieu took office in 2010, according to crime analyst Jeff Asher. It’s hard to spin a 70 percent increase in violent crime under your watch, even for the silver-tongued Landrieu.

"Despite what you hear, the safety of the city of New Orleans is declining in the past year and has gotten demonstrably worse. This is the direct result of the city’s ill-conceived criminal justice policies,” District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro told The Advocate last year.

I disagree. I think the city has peaked and is on the down swing. White flight part deaux coming to you in the 2020s.

The LaToya regime is now in charge, watch all the positive change.
