A lot of local governments are facing tight budgets now that the pandemic faucet got cut off. They were spending like it was never going to end. But this takes the cake.

Guess they thought they could print more money like the federal government. Can’t wait to see Latoya behind bars.

I saw you added this after.

I didn't read the article but I didn't need to because I knew that number was way to low.

MAYBE.....she meant to budget 57.5 Million!

See...a simple clerical error....

Cantrell budgeted a total of $57,500 for overtime.

The in the first six weeks of the year- Bourbon Street Terrorist's Attack Snowstorm Super Bowl

Couple that with Mardi Gras and the prison break you are looking at over $57 million in overtime not $57K.

But they are $200 million off, where’s the other $143 million?

The Moreno sycophants are out saying it is not her fault.

The council reviews these numbers monthly.

Moreno also had a chance to support the recall of the inept and corrupt, arrogant and ignorant, petty and petulant dilettante Mayor and like the rest of the council refused.

$57,500 of OT isn’t even enough for Teedy’s bodyguard/frick buddy

New Orleans has the government it deserves, not the government it needs.

NOLA will have draconian layoffs as well as massive effort to raise sales, hotel, property, really any tax available

If you own property there seriously consider selling while value is still there.

I’m certain what little business beyond tourism and necessary health care services have to consider bailing out.

They're all idiots.

I hate to say this but maybe the state needs to simply take over the city and run it, putting the mayor and city council on the sideline.

The people running it, including the mayor-elect, have refused to do their jobs for far too long.

It's 16 years. Mitch the Bitch has a lot of culpability in the current state of the city. Was he worse than Teedy? No, that's not possible. But, it's going to be 20 years with the easy on the eyes communist in charge.

The people budgeting for this city...are absolute morons. 40 million on overtime...budgeted under 60k. That's just bonkers levels of corruption.

Curious as to what overtime was prior to 2025 (say 2020-2024) as those should have been used to inform the 2025 estimates....

$57k just seems ridiculous

This isn't the first time NOLA has gone broke. NOLA defaulted on its debt in 1934 and had two assessments in 1936 (that is why every other Parish in Louisiana collects property taxes in arrears, except for NOLA which collects the next year's taxes as it has since 1936).

Last time was thought of as a sign of the great depression by some historians, maybe history repeating itself?
