Looks like he was glad to lockdown was over

quote:

New Orleans City Councilman Jared Brossett was jailed Sunday morning on counts of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, records show.

Police took Brossett to University Medical Center after he crashed his car in the 2400 block of Elysian Fields Avenue, a source familiar with the case said. Brossett was treated there for minor injuries but refused a breath-alcohol test. He performed poorly on a field sobriety test and appeared intoxicated, the source said.

Officers booked him just before 6:05 a.m. Sunday. He no longer appeared to be in custody by 8:30 a.m.

Brossett didn't immediately answer a telephone call seeking comment.

Brossett's arrest came roughly 24 hours after New Orleans bars reopened in a limited fashion, as the city entered Phase 2 of coming back from the coronavirus lockdown. Many watering holes opened for the first time in months Saturday and drew healthy crowds.

I just wish it would’ve happened on Robert E. Lee.

He’s had a rough morning but on the bright side when he wakes up he can think at least I’m not Drew Brees.

Who cares? Unless he was preaching against or passing laws against drunk driving, or if this was his 22nd DWI, who gives a Frick? It’s New Orleans. Have fun and live your life. Someone gets one DWI, oops. Why do we expect our politicians to be perfect?

I mean, you have to be pretty bad off to be so drunk that you crash your car into something (which sounds like it wasn't even another car based on the initial report). Nobody is perfect, but it doesn't exactly look great if you're a leader and you drunkenly plow into something right after the bars have opened again for the first time in a few months.

2400 block of Elysian is where the I-10 ramps are. I assume he was speeding down the lake bound ramp heading towards his house in Gentilly.

He’s my councilman. Met him a few times and he’s a nice enough guy, but wholly unimpressive as a public speaker and politician.
