I like the Dan Carlin HH casts but I hadn’t really listened to any other ones to compare to. I’ll give some of these other ones a listen.

Fear and loathing In the New Jerusalem is not a flattering account of Israel’s founding.
It’s not flattering of the Palestinians either.
Quite honestly, the people that look the worst in the episode are the British

Sounds good to me. Don't care for any of them.

While people are suggesting podcost.. Check out Sold A Story, its about how many kids can read or read well, it has been known how to effectively teach kids how to read for decades, but the way kids are taught is pretty much due to who makes money on what books are sold for teachers, etc.

I really like “The Rest is History” podcast.
Its Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook, two highly regarded historians

How do people have time for a 40 hour Dan Carlen podcast?

could never get into Hardcore History. I tried so many times. Dan's voice just irritated me and I could never finish an episode.

Hannity is a douche, but his voice doesn't bother me.
Mark Levin, however, creates a visceral reaction like no one else. I cannot change the station fast enough if he comes on the radio.

Mike Duncan's is good "Revolutions" and I've met him in person at a book signing. Fall of Civilizations is also great and he adds videos to the narration on YouTube.

The Rest is History is good too

Yeah, their interactions and teasing is really fun. I like when they read passages from historical texts in the voice they think the person would have used.
They definitely embrace and aren’t afraid of a nuanced understanding of history.

I fly just about every week. Commute to airport + actual flight has me burning through podcasts.

Not excusing Hamas for October 7 , but his series on this gives you perspective on the Palestinians and their beefs with the Israelis. Also shows in an interesting way that while we condemn the actions of Palestinians, we tend to excuse much of the actions of the Hagana/Ergun and Stern gang in the 30s and 40s.
Brutality begets brutality.

As it turns out, something bad happening to a people doesn't make them good.
This is really hard to come to grips with for many white people re: native Americans, subsaharan africans, Jews or Palestinians.

Something he says that I appreciate is that he does try to picture the villains of history as 3 year olds at some point. They didn’t just become evil overnight. You can tell a more interesting story the way.
He really is the personification of “and then one day for no reason whatsoever, they voted Hitler into power.”
Not always right and don’t agree with every take but it’s deeper than your typical driveby historian.

That's a really good series. Not surprising that he got a lot of hate for it though, given how it makes all parties involved look pretty bad. One of those podcasts where I felt compelled to confirm what he was talking about because I'd never heard of half of what he was talking about.

The only podcast a friend of mine ever had to just turn off because the subject matter was so brutal.
