She must have had a bad lawyer. Ten years is outrageous in this case. She should have gotten 2 years and probation at worst.

Agreed. These stories are not the same.
I lost it at 15 to an 18 year old...not sure if that even counts as "statutory" or whatever, but it was the greatest (short) time of my life.
If I had some even moderately attractive grown assed woman getting freaky with me? All the better.
I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying these boys are probably not damaged.

It’s not not that clear cut as NJ has some exceptions. The 17 wasn’t able to legally consent due to the teacher being in position of authority. Depending on her role at the business getting him the job working for her family’s business could have also been seen as having additional authority over the 17 year old. She also possibly could have started grooming him when he was a freshman.
The sex with the 18 year old was more about ethics, teacher’s contract, or if they have anything specifically about teachers in law elsewhere like having to wait a certain time after graduation; but 17 would have been criminal for any position of authority not just teachers. Also, with the 18 year old the grooming could have began when he was a junior.

A lot more kids today are very immature at 17 than when I was that age. They might view it as more than just sex and could have an emotional attachment to the teacher along with the sex that can affect them in future relationships and in dealings with female professors and bosses in the future.
10 years still seems too harsh especially when only one would have been considered criminal for any position of authority over the kid.

I fully realize the legal reality. But, many 17 year old boys are perfectly happy having sex with an older woman and they don't need to be groomed. The article loves the buzzwords - "sexual assault" (legally yes, not necessarily in the generally accepted non-legal context however) and "grooming." Two guys in my high school (when seniors, one grade above me) fricked a teacher and the divorced mother of a 10th grade boy. Both guys are successful, no trauma, no angst.
Represented a high school senior who was having sex with his high school senior girlfriend - who told him she was 17. Turns out she was 16 and he was 19 - in the same exact grade in school. I didn't handle the criminal case (I was working on getting it off the kids record). "Molestation of a juvenile" was the charge. Sounds like some really heinous act, but in many cases it is not. His penalty: $500 fine. D.A. should have exercised some discretion and tossed it out.
So I don't get called out, I'm fully aware that the fact that the "victim" lies about age is not a defense.

This au pair comes from Columbia to work for a family. Starts an affair with husband. Husband and au pair want to get rid of wife so he sets up a “home invasion” of his house. The sicko husband posed as his wife online and told some dude that she (the wife) has always had a rape fantasy. Husband convinced the guy to “break into” the house and rape his wife. This guy thinks jackpot and breaks in to the house.
Husband and au pair are lying in wait and kill both wife and “intruder”. The girl only got 10 years for helping kill two innocent people.
