We have a Samsung from 2013. Had to replace the control panel right after we got it, but it was under warranty and has worked fine ever since. It replaced an LG from 1992 that is still purring away in the garage.

The guy who fixed the Samsung said 10 years is about all you can expect from any modern fridge. There is a Kenmore at my folks house that is even older than the LG, for all I know, it may be 40 years old. I'm the ice maker for that one, but hell, I'm a college man, I can make ice.

Get a normal fridge.

The fancy LG ones are garbage. The normal ones actually work and have very little problems

I have a Whirlpool. Ice maker crapped out right after 2 years ( right after the extended warranty expired). Repairman said the door would need to be replaced for $1300. Frick that. It’s bagged ice for us.

Had the Samsung with the middle drawer and the water pitcher that refills inside. Highly recommend.

Their ice maker issue seems to be solved.

The auto filling water pitcher was great and the middle draw perfect for cold beer (or things for kids to grab)s

Is a 70% fail rate within 6 years for the compressor. You're in the lucky 30% or have a non linear compressor

What happened was in 2014 LG decided to use a type of compressor that no one else uses. This has been nothing but problems.

There is a kit.
I could gladly walk you through install after the next time you unfreeze it.

There are four kids actually.

Kit 1 (extends heater tongs and better deals air chamber) 33% success

Kit 2 same as above with new ice maker 50% success rate.

Kit 3 same as above buy apply silicone to every gap. 90% success rate.

Kit 4 same s above but a new control board. But this cost about $600 installed.

... to fix your icemaker.

I always push Kit 1 then jump to Kit 3 if that don't work. Kit 1 is like $30

Yeah, I use to sell appliances and agree with what Napoleon has said. Almost all major brands are going to break within 10 years. Just like modern day cars. They don't want you buying a fridge once every 30 years. They want to replace every 5-7 years. More money.

That being said... I have had no issues with my GE set other than a board on my dishwasher going out. I was able to order that board for like $30 and fixed it easily. So far, knock on wood, my fridge has survived a tree falling through the kitchen and water falling on it and all around it during IDA.

The best there is are Subzero units from the late 90s early 00s before they switched to computers.

I can lose power and it stays cold for a day easily.
The control is a $30 timer.
It uses a whirlpool $40 icemaker and a $30 ? Inlet valve.
The compressors are basic Embracos I can get off ebay.

My wife hates it because it's old and not deep. But it is super reliable and I can keep it going for pennies and it was free.

Just had to have doors made to match cabinets.

We like our GE Profile. Bought it from an appliance showroom. Best part is GE has their own warranty division it should hopefully be easier to fix should problems arise.

The new LG stuff is apparently much more reliable but I'd still avoid it and Samsung.

On your ge dishwasher there is a design flaw with the heating element.
The old ones separate at the point of entry into the machine causing flooding into the electronics. It's common enough to see it 2-3 times a month.

If you have a GE dishwasher make sure the heating elements doesn't wiggle where it enters the tub. If you can pull up then it's likely leaking .

Kitchenaid have a bad issue too. I inspect mine monthly expecting to see a leak from the diverter.

I bought separate SubZs 25 years ago (apparently they are not even great now) I thought the price was ridiculous but everyone raved about them. In that time not one issue. I have come to learn it may have been the best appliance purchases I have ever made. At this point I plan to repair them if anything goes wrong but I wonder if the parts for the older ones are nearly the quality of the parts from the factory.

Thanks. I will check it out when I get home. I got this set on a major discount after the 2016 flood. It's Slate color. Looks pretty cool. Kinda boring, but we have white cabinets so it pops. I like the set up for the dishwasher. If I can pull up on it, is there a way to prevent the leaking?

I like the profile and monogram lines. Base GE is all Haier stuff now. For Chinese is not bad but it's still very very very cheaply made.

A 25 year old sub zero is the holy grail of fridges is like having a 90s maytag washer.

For dishwashers I have found you can still get the old school style all analog units. But only in black and white.
But nothing ride i can find analog.

Just get a 1980s Hotpoint, it will outlast your house and you'll save enough to buy another gun. I stole that idea from someone else but I like it.

Samsung couldn't make a functioning ice maker in Antarctica. Plus good luck in getting parts from them. They have some of the worst customer service in the industry. Bought a part and it came in clearly the wrong size. They claimed it was the right size for the serial number and there was nothing they could do. Offered me 20% off a new appliance instead since they couldn't make the part anymore.
