I have a Bertazonni inside and a Summit outside. Both have been solid.

If you want this refrigerator anytime soon, you may want to check on what’s available. I ordered a Whirlpool in July and it was delivered on April 1st. Many items are very long lead times.

I had a 15 year old Whirlpool. Wife wanted a new one, just like the old one. Bought new and stuck the old one in the shop. Lots of luck with Whirlpool.

We have a KitchenAid. Zero issues. Pretty sure whirlpool and KitchenAid are the same company.

I have an LG with the computer screen in the door. Works great and is very quiet.

Put a Frigidaire into a rental property and that thing is loud. Wouldn't recommend that one.

ETA - After reading the replies, I need to add in that I've had lots of problems with the icemaker. It's been replaced twice and when it works, it doesn't make much ice. But the big thing for me is noise level and it's as quiet as a mouse.

No one in my family has had to replace a fridge. My parents still have a wonderful yellowish one from when I was 4-5.

Appliances used to last 50 years. Go replace every one in your house from Home Depot or Best Buy and I guarantee you have problems with pretty much all of them within 5 years

I also don't use my ice maker. In fact all ice makers suck.

I don't use them, and probably never will. I try to buy a fridge without an ice maker. If I can't, I just don't hook it up. I hate them.

Same here. Very satisfied with our KA we got for right around $3k.

Word to the wise—order from Costco if you can. It includes free delivery/installation and a “no questions asked” return policy.

I feel like people that use ice makers are the ones with all the refrigerator problems.

Are you telling me you have never heard of ice trays? It is a vastly superior product. Immensely cheaper and they break about every 10 years or so and cost bout 3.50 to replace.

Yeah that's what I supplement my bags of ice with when I run out but ice trays suck. We probably go through 10 of them per day when we are forced to use them

Agreed. Fridges, washers, dryers, dishwashers. They all suck now.

The more basic the model the better.

The best advice is to ask an appliance repair man. The main problem is sourcing parts to fix them.

The oven in our house is from the 70s. I have to replace the element every 3 or 4 years but otherwise it's a tank. I was talking to the appliance parts store guy about it last time I was in there and he said "don't ever get rid of it".

Ice trays suck. We use a lot of ice so keeping like 8 of them full at all times is a pain and also takes up like 1/3 of your freezer space.

Avoid LG LIKE THE PLAUGE!!

But I came here to praise LG. Bought the house (in The Villages) 12 years ago; it came with all GE appliances.

About 10 years ago (all out of warranty of course), the water line to the ice maker began to freeze up, about every other day. Replaced it with the largest LG that would fit in the refrigerator's hole in the kitchen. Never a problem with the LG, or with any other of the GE appliances.

If you purchase one from a big box store, I would encourage you to purchase an extended warranty. I'm totally against them but have started purchasing them with every fridge and washing machine. I've used them every time and they MORE than pay for themselves on the first repair.

We've had Kenmore, Kitchen Aid, GE Profile, Samsung and currently LG.

get the most basic model that addresses your needs and skip the "fluff" features.

This is the biggest thing. The problem isn’t the ice maker, but the in-door ice dispenser. I’ve had two fridges in my lifetime, a white Amana from 1997 and a stainless Maytag that I have currently. Both have been solid, I credit this to the simplicity of them; I just get the simple freezer-on-top fridge with an ice bucket. My only complaint about my current Maytag is that the vegetable drawer is very flimsy and falls off the tracks if anything heavy is put into it. I would’ve happily kept the ancient Amana, but a Texas storm fried it via a surge. RIP “Big Whitey” you are missed
