Another device to make us more mentally lazy.
Over/under on this company getting sued when one of these mental midgets has a kid die in a hot car, even with user error?

It's more of a routine thing. If your normal routine is not to have the baby you may not remember they are back there if all you normally do is go to your work, especially if they fall asleep. shite happens when you have children and mistakes happen. It is easy to judge someone for being an idiot but more often than not it is just a tragic thing that could happen to anyone that is remotely busy or distracted.
Before I became a father I was one of the ones who could not understand how it happened. Then, I learned a thankfully uneventful, but sobering lesson as to how it could happen.
Like most people, I have a pretty set morning routine. Wake up at roughly the same time. Get ready for work in the same manner. Drive the same route to work. With my first child my wife and I generally took turns dropping my child off at daycare on the way to work. One day my wife needed me to drop our child off because she had to be in early. This was after about 4-5 straight days of her doing morning drop-off. No problem.
My child was an infant at the time. 5-6 months old. I loaded her in the car seat and left for daycare/work. That morning, however, I had a big meeting or something pressing on my schedule set for as soon as I arrived at the office. So, thinking about that meeting, I just mindlessly drove my usual route to the office as I had done for the past 5 days (and 5 years). When I got to the parking lot gate at my building I just happened to look in my rear view mirror at something. It was then I saw my daughter fast asleep in her car seat. I froze, then turned around and took her to daycare.
Thankfully there was no issue. But, because I was so used to my morning routine I just continued on my way as usual forgetting I had to drop her off. That moment scared me forever as to just how easy it could be to make a seemingly unfathomable mistake.

Waze has a built in child reminder.

Thank you. The fact that all parents have a primordial like dread of this shows we understand we are capable of making this mistake. And some people are far less mindful than others.

My vehicle senses when the backseats are occupied and gives me a pretty big ding and dash alert to check the backseats for children.
My kids never shut-up so I don't need it, but I thought that was a cool feature.

Not difficult for me to believe. Have you seen the way people are glued to phones?

Use the Waze reminder every drive. Worth it.
But also, I've got like 3-4 kids. And most times I have their friends/teammates/etc. in the car too. I get to a place & often forget how many kids I arrived/should be leaving with.
For those that "don't get how this happens", congrats on being pure perfection. Must be awesome.
Also, 100,000s of suburban/gate community housewives will 100% purchase to show how much they care & use it to 1-up their "friends".

Same. Mine beeps and says check the backseat. Smart feature.
I get that people like the OP think they are completely above something like this every happening to them. But I don't get people like the OP being so incredulous that people are making cars/devices that might prevent other people from making a horrible mistake (again not people like the OP who could never possibly need it of course).

I can halfway understand someone forgetting a kid in a hot car. What the hell is with the parents that knowingly leave a kid in a hot car to get their gamble on? Or shopping, etc?

a baby seat that could withstand the force of an air bag.
Don't see how that could be possible. They are made of plastic.
And children under 12 shouldn't be in the front seat either cause the force of the airbag can also kill/seriously injury them.

Very good example of exactly how this could happen.
I’m not going to hold it against anybody who wants some extra assurance that they won’t forget their child in the car.

I have a much simpler and free solution.
When the parent gets in the car, put their cell phone in the car seat. When they get where they are going, they might go a day and forget the baby in the backseat, but they won’t go five minutes before they forget they left their phone in the car!

Is it called responsibility?
Maybe it should be called "don't leave your baby in a hot car just because you don't want them anymore."

I've never almost forgotten my child in the car, but damn if I don't realize how it could happen. A two year old and a 4 month old, always sleep deprived, changing daycare schedule that follows a school holiday schedule, working a job with a constantly changing schedule with a few early morning changes happening on the fly, all coupled with the kid occasionally falling asleep and not making a sound.
I get it in some circumstances, and am glad something is happening to give sleep deprived, stressed parents piece of mind during their zombie like state at times.

People are so distracted nowadays that I can totally see how this could happen.

When my daughter was a baby 25 years ago there were just less things to cloud your mind up with, no emails to go through, no texts, no OT threads to check in too, now i leave the house i’m carrying my computer for work, my iphone, i can see it happening to me and i never would have admitted it possible at one time.

According to tiggerthetooth, you are stupid, ignorant, and careless, and too poor to afford the $49.99 for this device AND even if you could afford it you're not smart enough to clip it to the car seat.
Odd, because your post doesn't really indicate those things. So is it possible that you are actually a good parent who deviated from his routine and tiggerthetooth is an ignorant cocksucker? I think it's actually likely.
