A lot of corvette owners are just like 911 owners. They hate the new corvette because it's not the old corvette.

Oh - misunderstanding.. wasn’t thinking of the c-3 .. my bad .. c-3 is arguably the worst generation built .. with the exception of a few years/models.

I bet the steel in a Boeing plane is there of the torqu of the engines. Sounds like GM was going pure aluminum. That's good for some areas but not were the power wants to flex.

When Carroll Shelby design the original Cobra with an aluminum body he used a steel tube frame for strength because the engines he was going to use had more power than the original AC sports cars they were designed around. You can make aluminum strong but the size would be huge.

GM tried to get too cute.

I assume most people can tell that, despite having 'car' in his screen name, he knows nothing about them.

Shelby did that designing in the early 60s, in a comparably small shop. What idiot would compare that to the resources of a modern car manufacturer with current materials?

I have a 04 C5 and I like the car - bought it I. 2012 with 18k - gave 25k and I don’t regret it one bit; nothing but scheduled maintenance - and as some have pointed out .. somethings are cheaply manufactured, by in large it’s a great bang for the buck!!

Crossfire motor?
I have driven a C4 with the cross brace stiffener installed and I thought it handled pretty well. This was a coupe.

Typical GM engineering.

A coworker of mine bought a new Corvette last year and had to have the entire engine replaced about 3 months.

This is my issue with engineers. I've built tube frames for buggies with nothing more than a pencil and paper.

Yeah, slapping together a bunch of 4140 and 1/4" plate is a far cry from mass production requirements. A 25.5 Cert chassis with 2000+ hp is a wet noodle compared to a Corvette chassis too. Don't try to jive about engineers who could absolutely shred your work just by looking at it.

Crossfire was the stock motor induction system.
The crossbrace is a mod that adds stiffness to the frame.

Camoed rear mid-engine mules always share a striking resemblance to other rear mid-engined cars.

And yet my chassis is drivable (and tracks straight) after a 70mph triple rollover.

They can "shred" my work by looking at it, but anything I draw and build isn't warping from simple hard launches.

I've taken enough IE and ME courses to see how many engineers get lost in the process without ever concerning themselves with the result.

And how many of them have complete and utter tunnel vision when working on a project.

I have an 82 Collector Edition. Interior new, motor and transmission pulled and built. Crossfire...blah blah blah. Not much power but fun to drive. Love the stingray body. Last of its kind I believe. Drive it barhopping every couple months. Looks good in the garage.
