"Hagerty reports that development of the mid-engine coupe has been delayed in part because its aluminum frame is warping so much under acceleration that it's busting the glass engine cover."
1000 hp and an aluminum frame? Not so much.
You gotta love Government Motors

Obviously hard to see the lines on it, but I don't really care for the look

It’s been rumored that the all-new car will deliver as much as 1,000 hp in a top version, courtesy of a twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid powertrain.
Woah, that's quick...

That's only 40 hp more than the current Stingray

Glad to see they saved money by just copying the back end of the Camaro
Posted on 3/13/19 at 3:36 pm to cajuncarguy
Sounds like a poorly designed frame.

Am I the only one that thinis the Camaro looks better?

this has been my issue with Vettes over the years: great looking front, stupid back end. Nice arse, boring front. Its almost like GM groupthink just cant get it right...

Meh...it's not the material, it's the design. Until the 787, Aluminum was the most used material in Boeing planes.
One of the 777 engines puts out 110,000 horsepower. They seem to be able to handle it.

I bet the steel in a Boeing plane is there of the torqu of the engines. Sounds like GM was going pure aluminum. That's good for some areas but not were the power wants to flex.
When Carroll Shelby design the original Cobra with an aluminum body he used a steel tube frame for strength because the engines he was going to use had more power than the original AC sports cars they were designed around. You can make aluminum strong but the size would be huge.
GM tried to get too cute.

A negative GM post by a GM hater, how OT of you...

100% design, not material. The FEA analysis was off or wasn't translated correctly into the actual chassis.

Wanna play with the big boys, and copy Ferrari's design, then copy Ferrari's use of carbon fiber. Stop being a cheap arse, GM.

Why would Chevy use aluminum?
That's not even bear proof!

The point of the Corvette is to not cost the same as the exotics. Gotta cut the costs somewhere.
