Do you have a link to the new law? I would be interested in reading it

I'm supposed to be going up there in a few weeks for a bachelor party as well. I'm not sure how many people they claimed would be staying when they rented the place, but there probably will be more than 6 actually there. I can look up the name of the place if you want.

this law is brand new and was a hot topic, it passed despite strong public outcry.
It's basically in place to shut down HomeAway, AirBnb, etc
SXSW
F-1
ACL Fest
there were a couple instances...and I do mean a couple, like 2...where it got out of hand, and neighbors complained. I do personally know of one example where a homeowner basically built, what can only be described as "barracks" on his property, under the permitting guise of a "storage shed" (so it passed all the city permitting) with the sole purpose of renting it out.

false. Was there last weekend and it's nuts. It's to prevent short term rentals like airbnb
Sound like something Nola needs to do. Air bnb has screwed up the local real estate market.

This is just one example of a dipfrick ruining it for everyone.

I was unaware that there is only one way to have a real estate market, or that those markets should always stay the same.
You learn something new every day on the OT.

Protectionist policies that inflate prices and interfere with the decisions a landowner makes suck

University Hills in BR had this type of restriction as well just saying.
It is not a subdivision restriction, it is a Parish zoning ordinance.

the real estate market in Austin is screwed up, but not because of short-term rental inventory
I dont see the big deal, most of the reasons people put their house up for AirBnb are for the duration of the exact events most local scramble to get out of town. If you dont have any direct, personal interest in an event, like SXSW, and you live in town, it sucks for those 2 weeks. If you can get out of town, and get someone to rent your house to pay for your vacation, I say do it, more power to them

I would have never thought that Austin would be anti orgy.

Companies have been buying up damn near every house in certain neighborhoods, and turning them into air bnb properties. Bywater is basically an air bnb resort nowadays. It's basically stealing residential properties and making them commercial, without changing the zoning.

It seems like every week someone here is planning a bachelor party in Austin. Is the town that much better than Nashville, Vegas, San Diego, type cities or is Austin just closer than the rest?

Squeezing out the lower income in the process.
