A Lafayette to Monroe non-stop is needed but I think they would settle for a layover in Zwolle.

Get some tamales and it wouldn't be a terrible layover.

EDIT: On second thought, yeah, it would still be terrible, but you'd at least have some tamales.

My guess is Via Air to Austin/Orlando.

Since Via Air just came to BR why would they also go to Lafayette with the same 2 routes? Seems like they would be cannibalizing themselves.

Frontier Airlines will begin service to Lafayette starting October 24. Destinations will include Denver and Orlando, and the airline will fly out of LFT on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

If LFT offered flights to places that BTR didn’t and vice versa, the people could use each airport based on where they needed to go instead of messing with the Nola airport. I’m sure people in BR metro would rather drive to Lafy for a direct flight to Chicago and the same for Acadiana area people. But that would make too much sense and would require people in different cities to work together. Not how LA rolls haha

Not bad, and it fits with Frontier's business plan of offering less than daily service in markets where its catchment is not the greatest. Much easier to fill up a 150 seat plane twice a week than daily.

Frontier has shown a willingness to pull out quickly if it isn't showing signs of profitability. Even with some incentives that I'm sure LFT offered, it could be short-lived if the community doesn't embrace it.

Frontier is a pretty good airline. This is pretty much the best you could have hoped for after reading the article. They’re looking to cash in on that oil baw money from Lafayette to Denver. Same reason United had a flight frim Lafayette to Denver.

Since Frontier is less than daily service, they could alternate days between airports overall increase their catchment area with less risk.

Frontier cut back a lot of service after the recession. Glad they are getting back on track.

Well, to the extent that those pilot baws had friends running the airport who had been in contact with an airline's commercial real estate department.. sure I'd believe it.

Just as likely to know as a pilot group that relies on semi-regular internal memos from Isom and Parker.

You serious, Clark? There is no way in hell I'm crossing the bridge and the basin to fly out of Lafayette when the drive to New Orleans is the same distance, but with a distinct reduction in bridge related dumbfrickery.

The trouble that airports like Lafayette and Baton Rouge deal with is the increased ticket prices due to the limited amount of flights. Airlines like Delta, American, and United charge an arm and a leg for a one hour flight to the point where it is just easier to drive to New Orleans and fly Southwest to a more direct destination rather than a hub.

Hopefully, the area can embrace Frontier to where either more flights/destinations can be added or another airline like Southwest can come in. Also, the new terminal that will be built in a few years will be able to accommodate larger aircrafts, so that might help as well.

Back in June 2015 there were 26 passengers per day flying from LFT to DEN (nonstop or connecting). In June 2017 it dropped to 16/day, largely because the nonstop went away.

Frontier will need to stimulate some demand in order to make this route work with a 150/seat plane going twice a week. They offer some connections over DEN to help supplement the passenger loads, but this flight will live or die by the LFT-DEN market. Connectivity helps to optimize profitability on an otherwise marginal route.

United is recovering from the recession and is beefing up their domestic service at ORD. They need more gates, which are happening.

In a few years, United will probably have more ORD flights out of places like Shreveport, Jackson, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge through their partners.

To add, there were an average of 565 passengers per day flying out of LFT in June 2017, the daily volumes were:

IAH 36
DFW 33
ATL 29
DEN 16
LAS 13
LAX 11
MCO 11

Ever heard of Hwy 190? You don’t HAVE to take I-10 everywhere.. there’s plenty of other ways to get around

Frontier doesn't really focus on hub and spoke so much outside of Denver. There won't be connections with them in Orlando, but definitely Denver.

Unfortunately the new gates wont start coming online until after 2024 once the Terminal 5 extension is completed.

But United has been bringing more 50-seat regional jet flying into ORD and opening up new markets. Of the places you named, they would probably need to support a 76-seat regional jet. United (and others) are moving away from longer-distance (500+ mi) flying with 50-seaters.
