I dk why they’d put the 6.6 in a half ton.
Why not? I’d buy it.

If they could just take out the cylinder de activation shite in the 5.3 that would be perfect.
It would definitely help the reliability, but I’ve always found the 5.3 lacking in off idle/low rpm power. Bumping it to 5.7 or 6.6 would definitely help.
The 5.3 makes great power at an rpm range I rarely drive at.

will it be a total piece of shite like the last model?

Is the Tundra still having turbo problems?
It wasn't turbo issues. The recalls were manufacturing issues that caused engine failures. Motor and turbo are fine, they just messed up in manufacturing. I think it's going to be another long running, reliable, Toyota motor, they just had some screw ups.

This tracks, looks a lot like the new Suburban. The SUVs typically get the refresh first.

So they decided to just double down on the ugly.

And the Tundra is still better
Needs a V8 option, I don't care to hear about how awesome the V6 / Turbos are. I want a big dick swinging V8.

I love all the redesigns of the Chevy/gmc SUVS and the smaller trucks.
But, the 2500 series of the Silverado and sierra are the best looking trucks out there. They should make the Silverado 1500 look like those

Fairly minor changes from current generation. Probably a new V8 engine option though and a significantly higher price.

I hate when the head lights are split from the day time running lights.
Looks like shite on every vehicle that has it.

It’s not even really that close either. The Sierra is far better looking than the Silverado.

The LQ9 / 6.0 / VortecMax early/mid 2000's is the LS to bring back. No AFM, ultra reliable, 345 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque, more than decent emissions, cheap to make. I think it was their last truly great mill.
Hard to have faith that GM's 2027 V8 design will not have problems like they have had since 2007. Notably, its kind of scarry to read that - king of V8s has a 20 year string of issues.
Been following the Tundra V6 debacle; its probably something more than machining debris in the block. Some replacements are failing as well.
I hope some of the rollbacks on emissions requirements will be able to be engineered in quickly. We were on a sustainable path until they went nuts with the mandates.
This entire 2020 onward vehicle situation (emissions regs / EV / not letting the market decide / etc) autopsy would be a great topic in future college business courses...if there is such a thing in the future.

So the biggest change is going to be the price tag.

The 3.5L in-line 5CYL Vortec that was in the OG Colorado was one of the best engine/tranny combos GM ever made. That what was in my '04 Colorado and it lasted 299,200 miles and 13 years. Best vehicle I've ever owned.

isnt there a plug and play way to get rid of that?

Same shite, different year, same joke of a warranty, same ridiculous price tag

The Tundra had turbo issues for the first year but it wasn’t anywhere near as widespread as the main bearing failures.
They claim that the widespread main bearing issue is manufacturing debris. But they also made a small design change and part number change in 2024 to the main bearing and thrust bearing. Presumably because there was a design flaw as well.
It will be worked out but I wouldn’t buy a twin turbo Tundra (new or used) for a while. This might just be the generation to avoid. I think Toyota needs to bring back the V8 as an option the way Ram did until they finish working out the kinks.
And when it comes to turbo motors….long term an inline design with a single turbo just has fewer failure points. I know it’s not perfect but the GM Turbomax is a safer move from a quality, cost, and simplicity perspective - but the large displacement 4 cylinder configuration is a huge risk from a marketing perspective. People still aren’t warming up to that especially with available V8’s in the same showroom. It’s a solid design. But it’s more ideal for a mid sized truck IMO.

Hopefully they fix the damn uncomfortable seats. I had a 23 Silverado for a year and that seat destroyed my back.
HORRIBLE I went from a Platinum F-150 (amazing seats) to a 2024 Sierra.
quite possibly the most uncomfortable vehicle I have ever owned.
