Its not stupid unskilled workers pricing themselves out of the job market, it is "well-meaning" politicians buying more votes.

The kids in this thread better learn the importance of a free market or they are going to destroy their own futures.

acknowledgement that many of the more than 500,000 people who work in fast food restaurants are not teenagers earning some spending money, but adults working to support their families.
This is the part that needs to get a lot more attention. How in the world are adults who support families so lacking in professional / labor skills that they need to resort to working in fast food?
We have massive openings in nursing, teaching, mechanics, a/c repair, plumbing, etc.
The only "adults" working in fast food should be management trainees, retirees, and those looking for part time or extra income. No one should be working long-term in fast food as their primary source of income.

Almost every software you use is created or managed in CA. Even the servers that host the websites you like are serviced there. Your phone was designed there, so was your laptop pc etc
not by fast food employees.
My phone was designed by Samsung, not in California.

Those jobs you listed require certain pre requisites. Fast food doesn’t. People with families or in poverty can’t shell out $$$$ to get educated. You want less adult fast food, make professional training free

Samsung US headquarters is in CA. I know this because I lived near by.

If you think the change that impacts roughly 50k or so people (or even less) of the lowest tax bracket will have a significant change in an economy of 50 million, I’d like to sell you some property
The only way to pay for this is to cut jobs or raise prices.
Cutting jobs hurts the employees this is meant to help.
Raising prices hurts all of their customers... which is a pretty big segment of the population. j

Unless millions of people suddenly boycott McDonald’s, nothing will happen. Your bill will be 7% higher but you’re eating McDonald’s so won’t even be able to tell the difference

The one that you couldn’t get into

I’ve only heard it a couple times on this thread. It’s not paying these people $20/hour, it’s the $17 bacon cheeseburger and the $8 large fry that will passed along to everyone. This will cause closures and layoffs.

This is more likely to be better for ca than not. What’s the point of making so much money if all the lower income people can’t afford to live there and therefore leave?
Let's be frank.
The people who are making the money off of the backs of fast food workers don't care about if the lower income people leave (they won't by the way because they can't afford to) and don't need the extra money.
But... the way our system is set up... that is not what matters.
Yes, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and raising min wage does jack squat to actually fix any of that.

Democrat policies.
Democrats have a need to keep their base perpetually poor, angry and stupid to ensure they keep their power via the ballot.
These fast-food workers fill that bill.

Because welfare cuts you off it you make to much so these jobs allow them to have some on the books income (which they'll get back in taxes), fulfill their work requirements, and still keep their benefits.
It's a system and they have it worked out.

Lefties call out the Right for "trickle-down economics" but never get called out for their "trickle-up economics," which of course always drops harder than the Rights trickle.
Now everyone in a business will have to get a raise. Democrats really are devilishly stupid.

And that’s why government is intervening. We should see this as a positive for society unless you think all poor people should die
