Thermo was the worst. I remember some of the averages being in the 40s. Obviously something is wrong with the class/teacher at that point.

The answer is some type of upper level engineering, math, physics.

Combine those and you have Math 4038 - Mathematics Methods in Engineering. That course was brutal. OP is spot on.

Eta course description:
quote:

The most important goal of this course is to teach the method of separation of variables in linear partial differential equations, with applications to important equations of classical physics such as the wave equation, the heat equation, and Laplace's equation. Originally this course was preceded by a course in ordinary differential equations that included Fourier analysis. The latter course no longer exists, so it is important in Math 4038 to teach enough Fourier analysis for the treatment of partial differential equations by separation of variables. There are also important applications of this method requiring more general orthogonal function expansions, such as Fourier-Legendre and Fourier-Bessel series. However, most students in this course have not studied the use of power series to solve ordinary linear differential equations. For Bessel functions, one needs also the Frobenius method for regular singular points.

This. I remember I had Dr. Harris Wong. By the final there was like 15 or 20 people left in a class that started with 100+ people. He also liked to brag that he wouldn't curve final grades, even with averages in the 40's. That class was the definition of the phrase "this is where dreams go to die" or at least I thought so at the time .

I don't remember the course code, but Numerical Methods was the worst class ever and Brenner was the worst teacher. You would have been lucky to have Antipov teach it to you. Stochastics is a close second.

Didn't go to LSU but organic chemistry was toughest by far. I worked my arse off in organic 2 only to get an 89 at which point the prof announced he was grading on a retarded curve: 90-100 = A, 75-89 = B, 60-74 = C, 50-59 = D. I was pretty pissed.

The beginning ones are easy. The hardest one was the advanced accounting course. It was the last accounting course you had to take to graduate, and it shoved a bunch of concepts together with basically no rhyme or reason other than "well shite, we never taught you this stuff before this and we need to get it in before you graduate!".

I thought Bio 4087 (biochem book squished into one semester) was ridiculous. I was taking a ridiculous load that semester, but the reading sucked and the lecture consisted of talking about pics of proteins.

frickin Heat Transfer with Dr. C. It was one of those throw more at you than you've been taught just to see if you can "think outside the box". Averages in the 30s.

But, based on my grades/GPA, it would be Engineering Economics. fricker gave me a B, 2nd semester, senior year.

Organic chemistry is fairly easy with a little preparation before tests.

I found this out the hard way by not studying for the first couple of tests. Then I started preparing for test and realized that it really is pretty easy to understand.

Physical chemistry on the other hand...frick that shite.

If anyone in here says physics 2101 or any calculus, they are immediately labeled as not very intelligent.

Che grad here and the hardest was unit operations. 4104 or something iirc. That shite was intense and the the overall workload your senior year makes it worse.

^This. The organics are hard classes only because it introduces completely new concepts that really weren't covered in your Gen Chems. If you get a good grasp on Organic I then Organic II isn't bad at all.

Physical Chem fricking destroyed me. Only had a midterm and final. Class averages hovered around upper 50's

"Hate" is a strong word; pretty sure i fricking hated that guy. he was your classic budget cut caliber professor who had no idea what he was doing. Just my luck to sign up for that guy made me want to quit college. I have been way too careless taking chances with unknown professors

Surprised it took 3 pages before this was mentioned.

Although I never took it, I saw the organic chemistry classes take some of the smartest, hardest working students I ever knew when I was at LSU and reduce them quivering globs of goo.

I saw that around me too, but I took biology classes that were harder than organic chem.

ETA though Parasitology was the hardest class I took, I studied the most for the 2 Latin classes I took, and it's not even close. Those 2 semesters I was at the library the majority of weeknights translating some shite or studying for the weekly quiz.

f I'm thinking of the same woman, her last name was Thomas or Thompson. This was circa 1991. Her tests were brutal for a 1001 level course. I was happy to get out of her class with a B. I recall hearing she was put on probation or something for failing so many students but that may have just been a rumor.

same prof, for sure. i remember thinking i could do my normal MO and skate by with a B on first exam and then calibrate study habits to bring it to an A by semester-end. rude awakening. Dropped. took mirco instead.

First two tests in organic I made around a 30. Studied for maybe an hour before each of those. After that I realized I needed to study. Finished with a B.
Organic 2 I was smart enough to buy that study aid book they recommend. Was a breeze.

Organic isn't bad at all. I bought this little booklet called organic as a second language and it was the only thing I read and it was a breeze. Book was like 80 pages

Organic gets such a bad rap in undergrad. Every bio major is "errmyygerrhd I start organic next semester it's gonna be so bad!!"

It's just different because you aren't used to making figures to explain molecules and elements and what not
