Simple, this is a money grab and those people don't / can't pay fines. They instead have to serve jail time which costs money. So they do these in areas where people can and will pay their fines to make it all go away.

It’s about revenue collection. Period. Spare me the bleeding hearts and public safety.

If it really was about that there wouldn’t be 10,000 ways to get out of it by paying money and you wouldn’t have assholes getting in wrecks killing kids on “7th offense DWI”.

I've blown a 0.04% and NOPD said: Congrats, you're only half drunk, you should drive straight home. I still had to pay the speeding ticket though.

Timing. You got lucky. Cop about to go off duty and didn't want to spend another 2 hours booking you in.
Sure, random things and stops can easily end up with a warning. But the setup stops/checkpoints? Nah nan, you are being investigated, period!

I've got to be the only person on earth that took one drunk and passed. To this day I can't explain it.

Passed one back in college. Certainly not proud of my actions and it taught me a great lesson at an early age.

I had been drinking all day while tailgating before and after the Aggie football game. I rolled thru a stop sign around 2 am and put in a handful of Levi Garrett immediately after the officer lit me up with his lights. First thing he asked when he came to my window was why I put some chew in my mouth. Made up a story as I had heard a wild tale from a friend that it would throw off a breathalyzer as I knew I was effed if they made me take one. He gave me the pen test going side to side and then asked where my house was. Luckily, it was less than two blocks away. Officer said get your butt there asap and stay there.

Maybe I caught an honest officer not looking to screw up a life but he saved me a lot of trouble and taught me a valuable lesson. I make it a priority to avoid driving after drinking but wouldn’t take a FST under any condition these days.

We were at a restaurant one night and I drank 3 beers before getting my food. Got my food and ate and didn't drink any more after that. On my way home I come across a huge DUI checkpoint. This was probably over an hour after drinking my last beer and having a meal. I roll up to the cop with the flashlight and he asked if I had been drinking so I tell him the truth thinking he might be able to still smell beer on my breath. They made me get out of the truck and one of the officers got in and drove it (with my wife still in the passenger seat) to an empty parking lot where they were running drug dogs and doing field sobriety tests. They make me take a field sobriety test, which I fully complied with because I wasn't the least bit impaired. As I'm performing their circus acts I noticed them pulling in a white F150 to the area where they had the drug dog. I watched that dog damn near scratch the paint off that truck when they finally decided they were wasting their time with me. They told me to go home and drive safe.

I was on a jury for a college kid who was arrested for DUI. His BAC was around .08 but he passed the sobriety tests with flying colors. They still arrested him. Goes to court and we find him not guilty because he was clearly not impaired in the tests. Probably cost him $10k to clear his name.

It’s 100%. When they get to the field sobriety tests they have moved on to the gathering evidence phase. No matter what they say they are not trying to see if you may or may not be drunk.

I got stopped in Bossier City at a DWI checkpoint about a year ago. He asked if I had anything to drink and I said I had two drinks. He made me get out of the car and gave me a field sobriety test. I passed the test and he let me go.

Bruh…that’s true, but most of these people pass drug tests too. It’s like dealing with the Nazi brownshirts. Keep licking those boots. It’s a power trip by the uneducated. frick those motherfrickers.

This reaction makes no sense. People who pass drugs tests and have no BAC do not end up in court for DUI, or, if they do, they beat the charges and it becomes a major scandal if that becomes a pattern with a particular officer or police force.
