That’s how the left tells me to deal with their overreaches at least.
I don't agree with either, but I'd bet a lot of these same people were good with vaccine mandates and Covid lockdowns. They are perfectly fine with the government's boot on someone else's neck when they support the cause.

Given what we know about civil asset forfeiture it's obviously a legit question
People have had much less in cash confiscated while driving before
It said he had all the bank receipts in the bag with the cash. He told them he had the cash before searching.

Hi, I'm going to come into your property and take your money under false pretenses.
Don't worry, you'll get it back. As long as you have the time and money to pay for lawyers and can get a judge to rule in your favor.
But don't worry, you might get it back eventually so you better shut your mouth

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) then used a controversial tactic known as the equitable sharing program to send Stephen’s money to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), with the expectation that the DEA would circumvent Nevada law to forfeit the money using more government-friendly federal law and then kick back the lion’s share for the NHP to use however it wanted.
Now this is some bullshite.

I specifically said in my post I don't agree with cops taking the money. I explicitly said that. You left that part out, took one sentence of a multi-sentence post, quoted it, and berated me.
That's how I know I'm right and you are wrong.

Good.
These highway robbery schemes need to be stopped.

I just cant comprehend the actions of the cops.
They apparently didn't steal any of the cash for their personal gain.
I guess you can say they would eventually see the money in the form of trickle down from the DEA to the NHP but how much benefit would the officers see from 100k spread out over the whole state/DEA?
Was it just a power trip? I can't fathom taking a guy's life savings for the lulz.
They must've genuinely thought is was illicit money. Doesn't make right though.
Asset forfeiture is un-American and it should be tossed. I know some amount of drug dealers are going to be able to keep their assets without AF but thats better than whats going on now.

I have seen trucks with “come and take it” along with “back the blue” stickers. Who do you think is coming to take it?
Posted on 7/30/24 at 9:02 pm to boxcarbarney

Absolute evil.

100k goes on his tally for seized funds. He doesn’t get that money. He wants to get more money by being promoted within the department. Perhaps, he is on the DEA task force via his own local department and wants to become an actual DEA agent.
The reward and benefit is in the promotion.

Also local departments get a large share of seized cash even if it ends up in federal coffers under equitable sharing.
That seized cash eventually makes up a large portion of the annual budget for a lot of depts.
It's just tax collection under another name and has nothing to do with drugs or public safety.

How much $ should you “legitimately” be able to carry in your trunk?
Civil asset forfeiture makes me more angry than any other govt policy.

Power in and of itself is an aphrodisiac. Doesn’t need to monetarily benefit the individual cops.

It’s true but they also do skim off the top as well sometimes, lol.
After all, it’s so easy to do when dealing with cash and someone that can’t show receipts for EXACTLY how much cash they are traveling with on a certain day.
Sure, the owner of the money might get what the state claimed they seized back, but he better hope he essentially had his money in a bank envelope with the withdrawal receipt.
Otherwise, just a big stack of bills or a grocery bag of money is really easy to just wet your beak a bit.

Did he get paid the interest on the money? The Feds will frick you on interest for back taxes. This country is so fricking corrupt.

That it shouldnt have been taken from him in the first place. Cops should have to pay an interest rate for the time they withheld his money from him at the very least

Another bullshite aspect. The interest point I made in my prior post aside, if they're going to take it, they should have to document exactly what they've taken. If that means sitting there for hours and counting every last bill, then so be it.
