Cant say that isn't a weakness of mine.

But I started the thread partially because she is a pitt. I've seen about 4 pitt hating threads today.

I hate uneducated people. They breed hatred, false beliefs, etc.

Not every black person is a dindunuffin...

Not every white person is a racist...

Not every pitt is a child killer...

Not every Mexican should be sent back...

Etc...

Walt commented on the well-known and statistically-backed volatile behavior of pitts and you go to saying Walt's "kind" should be ended.

Who's breeding hatred again?

Must be stricken with the cancer that is liberalism.

Not all pitt bulls were bred to be fighters

Yes....BUT...

First, I recently attempted to adopt a really sweet pit that I also felt was ignored. You absolutely did the right thing. However, this is the thing about pits based on clinical evidence. Forbes Magazine printed one of their "InfoGraphics" last year that Pit Bulls are in fact "America's Most Dangerous Dog Breed" For the duration of this recent 12 year study, US Census reports 420 fatal dog attacks, the LARGE majority were 284 people KILLED by Pit Bulls. And this despite the breed accounts for only 6.5% of the US dog population. A very far second place was Rottweiler...killing 45, then German Shepherd at 20. So a single breed accounting for a mere 6.5% of all dogs... ..KILLED more men, women, and children than all other breeds combined... and then doubled???

If this were a brand of parachute, car, gun, or any other "life at stake" commodity available in this country with these kinds of disproportionate death percentages compared to other available makes (or breed), it would have been banned, outlawed, and removed from society decades ago. I've seen some really screwy info by maybe the "American Canine Disposition Study" or something like that, the balance of amount of test specimans was nuts, it had a "pass / fail" percentile number for each breed and made little sense. Found that Border Collies are much worse than Pit Bulls in disposition if provoked a certain way...but this is not an issue of temperament...it's an issue of a breed largely OUTSTANDING in that it KILLS people... while others just don't. Sure all dogs can be sweet.. and a human can piss off any dog enough to defend itself... or retaliate and bite...but few breeds will take it any further than a bite or a nip to warn... almost none will continue until the human is dead.

I am strongly against the "putting down", cruelty towards pits, and not caring properly for the existing breed but I think it's time to put an end to its propogation for household pets. Let these animals live their remainder of life in dignity and with proper precaution....then phase out any continuation of breeding for purposes of ownersip in this society. There's just too much- difference between all dogs that bite from fear of threat or in protection, and a breed unlike any other, that carries the intensity of its aggressive tendencies to the death of what it sometimes correctly, or many times incorrectly, feels to be a threat....

My dad, who is a vet, said never get any kind of dog with any pit in it. They will be the best, most loyal, protective dogs, until they aren’t. You don’t know what will make that dog snap and when it does, you don’t want anyone around.

A dog that has clearly been abused by two different owners unfortunately is a dog I would not put my family around. You don’t know anything about the dog or it’s potential past abuse.

It is a good looking dog and probably acts great but is it worth it?

This. If the bed you bought for your child had the same statistical chance of randomly collapsing and killing your child as pit attacks that occur for the first time, would that chance be low enough to risk it? When you could easily have any other kind of bed that would work just as good?

I’ll be honest... I tend to land pro Pitt, and had a mix that may have been my best dog ever. But adopting one from not one but two bad home situations would worry me. Given that it just takes one thing to set one off and be very bad, I like to minimize the potential for me not understanding the dogs triggers
