An alternative (which may or may not have been done by a younger version of myself years ago) is to go at night and replace it without them knowing. In today's age of doorbell cams, security cams, etc it might not be a good idea.

What if that was someone's grandpa's flag that they flew in WW2 that you just stole?

OP should mind his business

That reminds me, ours is sorta faded. Not ripped like some I've seen but it needs to be replaced.

Waiting for a new president. Current flag seems to be similar to the current one.

I wouldn't get involved because the flag may have sentimental value. I know a buddy of mine has one that has some shreds in it, but it flew in Iraq.

How about be a good neighbor and bring them a new flag. It's probably some old vet who can't take it down everyday. Also, search out your local Boy Scout Troop they might do this for you and they definitely would retire that flag for you.

If a flag isn't illuminated, it's not supposed to be flown at night. In a neighborhood, I highly doubt that is the case.

Every Boy Scout knows there is a Flag Code.

quote:

When a flag is so tattered that it can no longer serve as a symbol of the United States, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning. The American Legion, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the USA and other organizations regularly conduct dignified flag-burning ceremonies, often on Flag Day, June 14.

That's not the point Lemmy. Jesus reading is fundamental.

It's a younger baw and his girlfriend with their kid. They don't really talk to anyone on our street and our section of the neighborhood is pretty friendly and hang out often.

On NYE he drove two houses over in his big lifted truck to ask some other neighbors to keep the fireworks down because their baby was trying to sleep. I wouldn't say they aren't friendly but they don't seem like the type that like to be bothered.

My thoughts as well. Could be a flag that was on the coffin of a relative, for example.

Upside down means distress, black means no quarter given

My oldest son, also an Eagle Scout, told his employer that the flag was frayed and they should get a new one

Employer listened

That son brought it home and gave it to little brothers to properly retire at a Boy Scout camp out

I would assume someone could shadowbox that instead of flying it. That would be my suggestion.

Slackers

If you fly the flag (your choice) you need to fly it correctly

I hate when business fly the big ones and let them get tattered and torn.
