It’s been a sign of hospitality for centuries and has been used as a decorative motif in England and America since the 1700’s. I’ve got a 200 year old clock made in Connecticut with gilt swirling pineapples on it probably made for a Yankee trader in the Caribbean. I don’t think it meant he and his wife were swingers.
