Need some E-Cigarette Suggestions

I have a colleague who is leaving for another job and he smokes. He wants to quit smoking, so we thought we would give him an e-cigarette as part of his going away gift.
I see products from 12 bucks on up. We want something that is nice and will last. I know nothing about the types or different technologies, so I may need schooling.
What would you suggest? Budget is 100 bucks.

Tell your colleague that he's pretty damn cool in my book.

This is the equivalent of giving a fat person a scale as a gift.

I use the Council of Vapers Mini Volt. $40
With a Nautilus Mini Aspire tank. $25
Have saved $1200+ since Sept last year switching to the vape, don't smell like smoke anymore, lung capacity is exponentially better and have cut the amount of nicotine in the juice by 75% since I started. Should be nicotine free by Sept this year.
Tell you buddy to treat it like a cigarette and not be an a-hole and do it indoors or at bars where smoking isn't allowed. Douches and their inconsiderate vaping habits give the whole thing a bad name. People don't want to inhale your vapor just as bad as they don't want to inhale your cigarette smoke.

As someone who's 4 years quit and battled with quitting for years before that, I suggest the patch. There are a number of health concerns with e-cigs that we don't know a lot about yet. I get you want to do something nice and think it's better than smoking so I'll send you whatever I have left from when I thought it was a good idea. Just let me know and we can deal with it offline.
Edit: to finish my thought about what I have left.

Don't do it. Either smoke tobacco or not at all. When was the last time man tried to reinvent mother nature and it worked out? Man made sugar, butter? It all sucks. Stick with natural tobacco and risk lung cancer. Start vaping and get popcorn lung. My grandmother was 75 before she died and smoked for 60 of them. No studies are back on long term vaping.

Don't do it long term. Use it to taper off and quit. I know several folks who have done that.
Short term vaping has to be better than long-term smoking.

According to the OT, barn style storage sheds are trashy but e-cigs are just fine.

Starter kit
Strength: 16mg medium
Flavor: Trailhand Tobacco
This stuff works,
I have experience with it,
Buy online or go to store at corner of Perkins and Siegen,
$50 for everything,
Best there is for starting out.

Get a tattoo instead. Equally bad decision.

These were good for starting out a few years ago. There are much more nicer options now. If you're going to spend the $40, spend an extra 10 and get something like this. Longer battery, bigger tank, better flavor, can use pre-built coils or even build in the future with the RBA if you get more comfortable and are willing to experiment.

Starting out, cloud-size isn't that important, plus it says they're out of stock. But hey, I'm all for whatever works. What works for me might be different from others.

Ipv d2 or d3 with an aspire cleito tank. Best everyday mod you'll find in that price range and you'll have enough money left over for a couple bottles of juice. There is also an eleaf istick pico 75w that can be had online for under $50 as a kit with the mod and tank, everything but a battery. Good solid mod. I smoked reds for 15+ years and haven't even considered one since I started vaping nearly 3 months ago. My wind is back, food tastes better and regular cigarettes are actually pretty repulsive to me now. Inhaling 3 - 4 food safe ingredients instead of hundreds of really bad ones is a easy win.

I have a COV mini volt as well. Great device only limited by battery life. I use it as a backup pretty much

Vaping is up there with outdoor kitchens.
