For a colleague. Is a food basket a good idea or do people prefer plants/flowers? There was not an obituary.

Flowers are pretty useless.
Food is nice so they don’t have to worry about cooking when they are busy making arrangements.
However, you never know how much food they are getting and it might be overwhelming.
Tough call.

We normally make a donation in the deceased person's name to St.Jude or some other charity. It's a nice gesture.

if it’s a straight male, text him nude pictures.

If it’s a lesbian, text her nude pictures.

If it’s a gay guy or a straight woman, a male prostitute and blow.

Plants are foolish, already had one death, why compound it with another?

Bird feeder memorial

I received this when my Dad passed. I thought it was really touching and personal. It's a bird feeder with deceased's name and date of birth to date of death engraved.

Seconded. Perhaps the family's church instead

This. While the love being exhibited the day of the death and the time leading up to the service is awesome we tend to forget that it’s the time after that in the days and weeks to follow when everything slows down that the real sense of grief begins to set in and we need to be there for our acquaintances, friends, and loved ones. Just give them a buzz and feel them out to see if they want company that day.

Food is always good. When pops died someone brought us a couple of frozen dinner from a local place here in town. Those were nice b/c we still had something easy to cook and eat a couple of weeks later.

Another vote for having food delivered. It's one less thing they have to worry about while they're busy grieving and making arrangements.

Without knowing any details, all we can confidently say is that flowers are useless and not appreciated, and then will also die

Sudden loss of his 13 year old child. Hence feeling like nothing can possibly convey how sorry I am for his loss.

A low maintenance plant is easy and will be around a little longer than flowers.
