I dont think you count that 10, i think its just to help visualize borrowing 10 as 10 ones.
I'll have to check with my 2nd grader when i get home.

Percentages are interchangeable
8% of 25 is the same as 25% of 8
8% of 25 is the same as 25% of 8

I don't have a clue... But I read cursive.

Worrying about people learning how to do math in their heads before they can do it pencil and paper is dumb imo.
The average person is a complete moron with math. I think it has more to do with poor priorities than how it is taught.

Except that's not what they're doing. Did you look at the link I put in my first post on here, showing the entire lesson? The overwhelming majority of the lesson looks like a very "traditional" math worksheet. There are 19 questions in the assignment. 18 are traditional, 1 is "common core".
To save you the effort of going back and finding my post, here's the link again: LINK

I get it. I am saying I don’t see the need for that to even be taught at a young age. In reality they should discover it by themselves with just a curiosity in math facilitated by the prioritization of its learning and emphasis on its value.

My point is not about what the intent is, it's a matter of 'will this actually work' because I do not believe it will. It might help the ones who would already figure shite out on their own, but the ones who would ordinarily not understand will continue to not understand
Ehhh, the point is to visually and graphically represent what a lot of the kids that “get” it already do in their heads. I’m not the biggest fan of it, but teachers and parents need to come to a better understanding of exactly what is going on in the math classes so that it can be properly and maturely discussed amongst adults.
Kids are extremely intelligent and adaptable. Adults are not.

In theory, sure. In practice? I think we have generations worth of experience that shows that's not going to happen, and we end up with a population of math-incompetent adults, so I have a hard time faulting them for trying a different tack

To be 100% fair, people in your line of work are generally terrible teachers of basic mathematics and arithmetic and sometimes are actually bad at it. Why? Because you’re so damned mathematically inclined that you can’t/struggle to articulate what you’re doing, you just know it’s right inherently.

Cheap arse.
I'm assuming this is common core math. Comedian Nate Bargatze has a good bit about it.

Because it’s only ever being taught one way … if in college teachers would actually learn to teach to different sets/types of learners, than all people would have a better chance at success

Number one problem with math education is it never gets past being viewed as solving puzzles. So older children never see value in it.
