Read my earlier thread about multi-city flights. If your boss trusts you, get the estimate for a MSY-CDG/GDG-MSY Roundtrip and then book your multi-city itinerary and pay the company back the difference. The TGV trains in France and Spain (AVE) are fast but air travel is almost always faster.

Don't be so quick to disregard flying vs. train travel. A just got back from vacation in Europe..At one point I had the option of taking a 12 hr train ride for $160 or a 1 hour flight for $100. Naturally I chose the flight.

No problem, the French & Spanish trains are great.

Ryanair is very cheap for inter-European travel but it is a discount airline with fees for everything and usually some poors aboard.

I'd do the Barcelona/Madrid thing, maybe go straight through to Madrid first and then come back to Barcelona. Barcelona is about 5 hours by train from Paris.
Not many other options as everywhere else near Paris will be cold and starting into longer nights. Not that they shut down but it definitely changes the mood of the general public.

Just indulge yourself in Paris. It's an amazing city.
ETA: Just saw you think you will be there long enough. Hit up Barcelona. It's good for a 4 day leg of a trip.

My kids are in their 20's and have been all over Europe. They would agree with these suggestions except Rome. Rome is a crime infested tourist trap. Only go there if you're interested in the Vatican, Forum, etc.
My kids would say Prague is #1. Amsterdam is very cool. Munich, Berlin and Vienna are great, too. So is Bruge.
You might consider Paris, Bruge, Normandy (if WWII interests you), then London, then home. Finishing in London, or Ireland, gives you a shorter ride home. All of those places could be hit with very short train rides.

While you ARE in Paris I'd definitely check out the Museum of the Army, the Louvre and just strolling along the river and through the city. And maybe check out Versailles if you like seeing a fancy palace and gardens.

Has been a big deal since 2002 or so. I´ve got to assume it´s gone down (and prices have gone up).
Women are very beautiful on a per capita basis, and stuff was/is cheap.
Amsterdam is super meh. I guess you have to be a stoner.
Berlin sucks. Can´t understand who would give this Japanese looking city a positive review (especially somebody young).
Munich is pretty meh, and Vienna slightly better.
Bruge is a must see, but very sleepy.

Paris is one of the great cities of the world, but they really do hate Americans. It gets tiresome after a while. Amsterdam is not a long train ride away, and the women are more impressive than Paris, IMO.
Barcelona, Rome, Madrid, etc. will all take up a lot of your travel time.

Everyone always says this, but I did not have that experience at all. I found that when I at least tried to speak in French (even if it was just "Parlez-vous anglais"), that they were very nice and helpful.
