I have a 2019 Ram. Drives like a luxury vehicle. Interior is awesome. Tech is awesome. Have not had any issues to date. Go test drive them and see what you prefer.

I'd like to test drive the '19 Ram but since it's a first production I wouldn't buy it.....usually too many recalls.

I have a 19 Ram and love it so far

I looked at both (and even the F-150). I like the tailgate on the Sierra and think it's a good looking truck. The interior, once I stepped inside, took me back to the 90's. No, it's not that dated, but when compared to the RAM 1500, there was no comparison. FWIW, GMC is supposed to be redesigning the interior next year.
I chose the RAM 1500. I liked the exterior of the vehicle and the interior blew me away. I've had luxury vehicles before and none of them compared to the inside of the RAM.
I bought the Limited Edition with all the bells and whistles, even the bigger tires (22"), 3.92 Rear Axle Ratio, Panoramic Sunroof, 33-Gallon Fuel Tank (you'll want this), and the RamBox Cargo Management System.

I'm not a Ram fan but I like all the changes they've made.....when I am in the market for a new truck I will definitely test drive one.

Sierra with the 6.2L V8 FTW
But the Ram has a best interior in the class.

I like the 2019 GMCs but apparently it’s a whole new platform and they are having recalls. I have a 2018 with no problems but the mechanic said the 2019s are having recalls

Go with the tundra.
I got one 13 years ago and have suffered with poor gas mileage ever since. And I suspect I will suffer with it for more years to come. Tundra just keeps running and running.

Today's RAMS are not the problematic dodges of the past. Everyone that hasn't owned one will go the default "ram/dodge is junk, bad transmission, dash crack " routine based off of bad information. I've owned two and neither have been overly problematic.
Funny part is this board never seems to want to acknowledge the chevy/gm cracked dashes and the oh so beloved OT F150 problem threads

The new Ram is a great looking truck with a fantastic interior. I’m just very suspect of their reliability. Once a Dodge always a Dodge.
I bought a ‘19 GMC Sierra. It’s been a great truck so far. Gas mileage is not terrible (I have the 5.3). The interior is not that bad, but it’s nothing special.

You could go with this ugly arse truck.

I drove both, ended up buying the Sierra. I really liked the Ram, but I talked to several Dodge/Ram owners and not one of them said they'd buy another one.
I don't think you could go wrong with either, but I'm happy with mine. And the tailgate really is pretty nice.

The '19 Sierra's and Silverados are ugly as sin. Go with the ram

So people are afraid of the reliability of a Ram but considers a GM or Ford product?
2018 was bad year for Ford just do a little research on the issues it's not hard to find.
GM products are just as problematic as Ford or Ram plus throw in the bland interior, inferior engines(Except the 6.2), ride, and ugly redesign not sure how GM is selling anything.
FYI: There is a reason Ram has out sold GM the past two quarters and gaining on Ford!

Half ton truck buyers have been skeptical of Ram for a long time. They have a history of being 5-10 years behind the competition until recently. They are known for being problematic and gas guzzlers.
The Ram/Dodge loyalist that are out there are more likely truck owners that have experience with the excellent Cummins Diesel engine. Dodge was the first to put a big diesel in their 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups.
Chrysler is every bit as popular as Ford and General Motors in the 3/4ton and 1 ton markets.
They’ve historically fallen short in the half ton markets, but their new models are very competitive even if they don’t offer as many body styles or variants as Ford and General Motors.

Ram has never outsold GM. They’ve outsold the Chevrolet Silverado - and that was with the old “Ram Classic” fleet vehicle being built and sold alongside their new Ram. They’ve also pushed the envelope on the interior of their new Ram trucks in a commendable way.
For full sized pickup trucks....General Motors actually outsold Ford in Q3. Ram is up, but they didn’t touch the General Motors or Ford.
General Motors also outsold Ford in full sized SUVs and compact pickup trucks, although Toyota owns the compact pickup segment.

Nissan is doing so poorly with the Titan that I think they may exit the full sized truck market in a few years despite updating the Titan in 2020.
Toyota is down but they are surviving. They need an updated Tundra badly with some real innovation under the hood. The Tundra sells to Toyota loyalists. It’s very unlikely that anyone who tests drives a Tundra next to a Ram, F-150, or Silverado will think the Tundra is better. It’s ancient.
The thesis here is that it you want a pickup or an SUV, chances are General Motors and Ford own that market for a good reason. General Motors is also scaling up production of their new medium duty trucks and are finally making all variants of their half tons available.
Ram is trying to encroach on the half ton market dominated by Ford and General Motors. They are having some success, but it may be coming at the expense of the Japanese brands more than their American competitors.
Ford is also doing well with their new Ranger mid sized truck, although it’s not particularly competitive with Toyota or Chevrolet at the moment.
Ram is going to enter that segment soon.
GM has done very well with the Colorado and Canyon although Toyota’s Tacoma is still the leader. The ZR2 and the diesel variants have found some serious fanatics.

Ford is experiencing a lot of problems with their 10 speed transmissions and electronics the past several years. The F-series is their cash cow. It’s possibly the only vehicle they make a profit on. They won’t let it suck (at least any more than usual) for very long before redesigning or updating.
Looking ahead:
- The next generation F-series is due in 2023-2024.
- The Silverado and Sierra are getting new interiors for 2021.
- The new Chevrolet Class 7 medium duties will be out by 2023 to compete with Freightliner and Hino. GMC will not get a Class 7 truck.
- A new Ram mid sized truck is in the works now.

Look into the carbon on intake valves on the new LT motors. They went to direct injection and are experiencing carboning of the intake valves since there is no longer fuel present in the intake runners. The LT motors are also consuming a bunch of oil. Like 2 quarts between oil changes on low mileage engines.

I bought the new Ram and my next door neighbor bought the new Chevy. He has a loaner in his driveway a lot. GM’s 8 speed transmission issues have carried over from the last body style.
