Having trouble finding a firm pillow. Like close to a down pillow but not that hard. Go to pillow spots are TJ maxx and Walmart. Nothing at either. Please help

I have been using the same pillow since 1998.

Firm, but not too firm.

I used old, inexpensive pillows until recently. I decided to upgrade and wanted a “cool” pillow for better sleep. After researching the options, I purchased a Sijo Flexcool pillow on Amazon ($72). You can add and remove the foam to create the desired height and firmness.
I wish I would have bought this years ago, as it’s been great for me.

COOP Makes one with memory foam surrounded by filler you can add or take out. It’s soft but substantial so your head doesn’t hit the mattress through it. They sell them on Amazon

I got one of these for Christmas. I agree, it is a damn stellar pillow. Good thing I didn’t know how much this fricker cost at that time!

The cost of most of the recommended pillows was surprisingly high, but I was a novice pillow shopper. Most of the highly rated pillows were over $100. I justified my purchase by weighing the cost against the value of sound sleep and impact that sleep has on your long-term health.

Take a look at cervical neck pillow for side sleepers on Amazon, I got one by mistake but tried it and haven’t used anything else in 5 years, they run about $30-40. I’ve had nerve problems in my neck and shoulders and that pillow has made a big difference.

You want a solid memory foam pillow. (not the chopped up kind)

If you are a side sleeper, you want a pillow that provides more support and doesn't collapse down to nothing. If you are anything like me though, you also want a pillow that is super soft. Those two things are mutually exclusive. I searched and searched, but such a pillow does not exist.
What you need is two pillows stacked on top of each other. The bottom one is firmer and provides most of your support, and the top one is the softest pillow you can find (i.e. pure goose down with no feathers) and collapses down to almost nothing). The top pillow provides almost no support (the bottom pillow does that). This combination gives you a pillow that is the right height, but is still ridiculously soft and very comfortable.

This is what I do as well. Two pillows is the best method I've found. I keep a fan next to my head blasting cold air at me all night, keeps me cool as the other side of the pillow.
